A worth while game

Jericho is one of those Love/Hate games, especially if your a person looking for an intriguing and interesting plot. Unlike some games the stories are very bland, and i'm sorry to say this but Halo is one of them, it's the same goddamn story in parts 1 and 2, but 3 looks very different. However Jericho has a fairly interesting plot to go with it's horror genre. Although it is slightly confusing and is not explained very well or clearly in some parts, most of the time at the beginning of the game you'll feel bewildered from being suddenly thrown into a war zone.

On a brighter note, Jericho utilises some very impressive graphics which create a terrifying, yet outstanding environment, from real-time lighting, reflections, incredible detail and other various bits and bobs which make this game an experience to play. The action content is amazing, your hardly ever left in silence for long be it from the groans of your enemies, or the gunfire from allies mixed with the cries and screams of your men.

Jericho will not fail to satisfy even the most seasoned of horror genre fans.

This is one of those games that has "MUST PLAY" written all over it.

You need to play this game. I don't care! You'll love it. this is one of those rare games that has a such an interesting plot. A story, written by horror legend Clive Barker, who gives us a terrifying story about special elite squad that have supernatural powers. The game has an intense gameplay, enemy is pretty hard to kill, believe me, it's tough as f''K, but you can get the job done, thanks to the possibility that you can play with each of characters. This is a game that allows you to play with your comrades who helps you and every one of them has a special power, for different kind of situations. It's cool. The gameplay, music, atmosphere, AI, it's awesome! The levels are so freaking cool designed that you just need to see more of them, dark and bloody... very scary. And it's also cool to hear the voice of Steven Jay Blum all the time. Try it, it's a great game, with a great plot! Thank you, Clive Barker! :)

Impressive chaotic atmosphere

We take on the role of a member of a special mercenary team made up of several different characters sent to investigate an abandoned town in the middle of a vast desert and neutralize the dangerous evil that lurks there. The team we control includes several characters with supernatural abilities. Three men and three women make up the Jericho team. This team is then divided into Alpha and Omega teams. As the main protagonist, we are the seventh member, Jericho's commander, Ross, who specializes in telepathy. Although he dies at the beginning, we are given control over his ghost and can possess other people's bodies. Other characters include a master sniper who can manipulate bullets with telekinesis and a clairvoyant. In terms of gameplay, the key to survival is the proper cooperation of your team members and combining the skills of the characters. The only negative thing about the game is that it requires more micromanagement than you would expect from an FPS game like this. It can become very challenging if you are not careful. The game offers an average of 7 hours of gameplay.

From Ratcat IMDBs own 3D Games reviewer.

Warning: Spoilers
Its OK to have creatures attacking you but ad nauseam? The distinct lack of enemy variety will quickly have you planning an exit strategy but for those who play in shutter glass stereoscopic 3D the good news is that it works extremely well. Unfortunately there are a few bugs (no not monsters) In the game that can really ruin the proceedings. One bug actually makes it impossible to continue on at one stage! The game lends little credence to the imagination that belongs to Clive Barker so much so that it is even doubtful that he had a final say on its release. Nevertheless there are some nice touches and game play variety that is definitely new to FPS. For instance jumping to a separate character and taking full control is quite a pleasant innovation. The ability to save ones progress is a luxury you do not have in Jericho. You must wait until you reach a particular point for your progress to be automatically saved. The first Clive Barker game was much more original but this game is worth at least one play through. 3D compatibility 10/10 no special adjustments necessary. If you would like a game reviewed for its 3D playability email me at ratcat17@hotmail.com

One of the best games and story lines.
LaBella26152 January 2010
I felt the need to post about this game in response to certain negative posts involving an individual who tries to use enhanced vocabulary and over dramatic text to review this game to sound intelligent and compensate for a lack of knowledge on this game and gaming in general. I am a tough customer and hard to please when it comes to games. This title is one of the most original, entertaining, visually stunning, constant action, and creative I have ever played. The graphics do not disappoint by any means. The music may seem terrible to the listener, as it is not a soundtrack you would blast in your car, however, for the atmosphere of Jericho it is perfect. A very demonic, religious, and dark sound that adds to the mood of the game. The music is a perfect fit on every level and was orchestrated perfectly.

The character development was incredibly done. You have the option of playing as 7 different characters (in the first chapter). Then you can warp between 6, all with different weapons and abilities. This leaves no need for weapon exchange or ability purchase or needing the ability to earn or locate different weapons and abilities throughout the game. Each character uses a different weapon and they each have their own unique abilities. If 6 weapons (usually with two uses each; i.e Abigail Black has a sniper and a rocker launcher in her weapon.)and 12 different abilities ( each character has 2) isn't enough then I don't know what else you could ask for.

The creature design fits in incredibly well the description and understanding of the time era you are in, how they died, and how they were assimilated to be useful to the first born in permanent purgatory. The storyline is easy to understand and flows accurately and keeps you interested from beginning to end. The load times between levels is counteracted by giving you a small typed intro into that level and what the first born and his minions are either currently up to or why they are in the mental and physical condition they are currently in.

Overall, this game is definitely one of the most entertaining games out there. You can tell it was directed by a movie director because the game has that "movie" quality to it. This is a game you have to play to fully understand and enjoy its concepts. Reading reviews or speaking to someone who has played the game will in no way compare to the gaming experience Jericho provides.

This game gets a 10 out of 10 for me on all levels. It is definitely worth the purchase and if you are not sure then at least rent it and I guarantee you will not be disappointing in this amazing gaming experience.

Jericho(2007)
robfollower1 October 2020
Product Information Author, painter, and filmmaker Clive Barker lends his writing talent to Jericho, a supernatural shooter that has players leading a diverse strike force against an ancient evil. The seven-person squad, known as the Jericho Team, is armed with more than conventional weapons. Each male and female soldier is an expert in the arcane arts, from clairvoyance and alchemy to exorcism and blood magic, allowing the team to solve puzzles and to more easily defeat a ghastly assortment of hell-spawned creatures hoping to make Earth their new playground.

Players control Captain Ross, who has the unique ability to leap into each squad member's mind and body. This talent allows Ross to use each character's paranormal proficiencies in creative ways, such as manipulating the direction of bullets or even spontaneously setting creatures on fire. Each soldier is also skilled in specific weapon types, ranging from rail guns to sniper rifles to swords. Levels will send the squad through the following five eras in its ongoing battle to stop the primordial armies: modern day, World War II, the Crusades, Ancient Rome, and Sumerian times.

Not a game for Clive Barker or horror fans to look forward to.
enkephalin0718 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
A great many readers enjoy Clive Barker's novels much more than his comics, and most of those who play games also enjoyed Undying. (What, you've never heard of his comics? That's because they weren't successful, for reasons that will become apparent shortly after you pick one up.) This game seems to have been written more in the spirit of the comic books, but not quite the Vertigo-series quality that have been struggling to give the medium credibility. Rather, this shoot-em-up mix of occult and soldiering gives so little respect of the authenticity of either and mashes together so many contrived character and gameplay elements that it should've sought market appeal in the puberty-age range rather than in a 'Mature' title.

The gameplay is rather unique in a few ways, it is fun in switching characters and their respective skillsets and play styles, each with their own graces. The lack of any pick-ups means that any weapons the player gets are the weapons they begin with, and any new powers appear spontaneously and without justification whenever the plot calls for it. The lack of pick-ups also means that exploration off the shallow sidetrails is never rewarded, making the rail-shooter nature of the game more transparent.

The interface somewhat mars the gameplay, but it does even fewer favors for immersion. The lack of consistency in how they're used makes sense when comparing powers that are fired once and those that are sustained, but puzzling when comparing sustained powers that are toggled with those that are sustained by holding the appropriate button while trying to maneuver...especially frustrating for those with long start-up animations. Where immersion really gets ripped away is the push-button cinematics, the type that designers whose experience with 'video games' consist of the digital trinket called 'Simon Says' think is a good idea. I'll say it again -- Simon says can NEVER be associated with action, and only spoils a good cutscene. If you want the player to face a survival challenge rather than a cinematic, you first have to give them the means to do that with the same interface and controls available to them at all times, and then trust the player enough to do it.

A good rail-shooter leaves player control as much as possible, and gives the impression that their forward momentum is under their own will. Seizing control even for dramatic purpose is to be avoided, and especially if control is taken from the player in order to give the characters plot-induced stupidity. This is even less reasonable when there are a total of 6 characters, only one of which the player can control at any given time, so couldn't you give any of the other five temporary retardation? Plot-induced stupidity is a discredited horror convention even in films, so it's especially disappointing to see a veteran of the genre continuing to use it, especially in a medium where success or failure should be up to the player's efforts.

Another poor reason to seize character control is for extended infodumps filled with melodramatic phrasing and often repeated or obvious information. While forgivable in mission briefing exposition, the designers seem to forget that this is an interactive medium, and the same words aren't received as well as they would delivered as prose. Another quality of a good rail-shooter is to parcel out information in the environment and encourage the player to hunt it down themselves, and then it becomes another reward for hands-on investigation rather than, as it is in this rail-shooter, an obligatory 'sit and listen to storytime, children' session.

I'd give this game a 6 for gameplay, 10 for visuals and sound, 4 for immersion. But the storytelling is poor enough to be insulting to intelligence, so instead of scoring it, I'd simply drop the two best scores and leave the average at 5. That's almost as unfair as developers who get paid for crap games if they just dress it up in enough glitter.
