The Finnish film, to which Guitar refers, is La Vie de Bohème (1992) by director Aki Kaurismäki, a friend of Jim Jarmusch.
Several lines of dialogue spoken by Tilda Swinton's character are taken from an essay Swinton wrote about film entitled "A Letter to a Boy from his Mother".
