Martin Donovan Joins Marvel’s Ant-Man

6 October 2014 1:51 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

While there’s always something stirring about one Marvel project or another, there’s one property that’s been suspiciously quiet as of late. It’s been a good six weeks since we’ve had any news on their troubled title, Ant-Man. Even then, it was a straw-clutching report about Evangeline Lilly’s haircut.

Now, however, we have something a bit more exciting, as THR reports that Weeds star Martin Donovan has joined the cast. As secrecy surrounding the pic is paramount, there’s very little they can reveal about who it is he’ll be playing. In fact, this is all they would offer:

Donovan’s role is being kept under wraps, but sources say it is pivotal to the story.

A key character in Ant-Man’s story is a rather broad description. As comic book adaptations go, there’s always the tendency to borrow characters from different storylines »

Actor Paul Walker would have turned 41 this week, so we're celebrating his life with a look back at some of his best photos over the years. He became most recognized and beloved for his role as Brian O'Conner in the Fast and Furious series. Remember the life of Paul Walker with a roundup of some of his best photos over the years. »

First Image of Paul Rudd as Ant-man

19 August 2014 10:57 AM, PDT | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

Superheroes are usually looming, muscular, young and big - their voices boom with gravitas. So, the idea of 40-something comedic actor Paul Rudd playing a superhero that is small seemed interesting with a side of dubious. However, after seeing the funny side of superherodom in Guardians of the Galaxy, we're now all in for Ant-Man! Filming started today in San Francisco; it will also film in Atlanta.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed (Bring it On »

First Look at Paul Rudd in Ant-man

19 August 2014 10:11 AM, PDT | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

Yesterday marked the first day of principal photography for Ant-Man. If I’m to be honest, I’m still a bit bummed that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish have left the project. I think their take on the Marvel Universe could have been one akin to James Gunn’s approach to Guardians of the Galaxy. Alas, we are still getting an Ant-Man film and the casting is pretty great. We also have a look at Paul Rudd as Scott Lang Aka Ant-Man.

From the Press Release

San Francisco, California (August, 18, 2014) – Marvel Studios began principal photography today in San Francisco, California, on its newest Super Hero franchise Marvel’s Ant-Man. The film brings one of Marvel comics’ original founding members of The Avengers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The production also shoots on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production.

First Official Image Of Paul Rudd As Scott Lang In Marvel’s Ant-Man

19 August 2014 8:48 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Marvel’s Ant-Man has only been in production for a mere 24 hours, but the studio has already released the first official image of Paul Rudd as conman-turned-superhero Scott Lang.

Rudd looks appropriately un-heroic here, sporting a dark hoodie, black gloves and an eyebrow bandage. We know that Lang was quite the troublemaker before running into former Ant-Man Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) though (who gives him the Ant-Man tech and trains him to be a superhero in order to pull of a dangerous heist), so he definitely looks the part in this first photo.

This new image follows yesterday’s casting announcement that saw Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, T.I., and John Slattery join the oft-troubled superhero project. It’s announcements and reveals like these that will win back some of the disgruntled and skeptical audiences that turned away from the film following Edgar Wright’s departure back in June, and with production now underway, »

Director Peyton Reed (Yes Man, The Break-Up, Bring it On) tweeted the following message today:

Alright, gang. Today is the day. Let's. Get. small. #AntMan

Peyton Reed (@MrPeytonReed) August 18, 2014

That's right, filming on Ant-Man has officially begun!

There's been a lot of Ant-Man trashing since fanboy favorite Edgar Wright left the project and the script went through several revisions, but I'm still very hopeful for this film. Marvel know what they're doing and I have full faith in them, Reed and the cast to pull this off.

Here's the official press release from Marvel:

Ant-Man may have lost original director Edgar Wright, but with Peyton Reed now at the helm, the movie has assembled a very impressive cast which includes plenty of familiar names and faces.

Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), and Corey Stoll (Yellowjacket) have all been confirmed, and a press release issued by Marvel today reveals the supporting cast, but unfortunately not the characters they will play in the highly anticipated movie.

That cast is made up of Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), Michael Peña (End of Watch), Abby Ryder Fortson (Togetherness), Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight), Wood Harris (The Wire), John Slattery (Mad Men), Gregg Turkington (The Comedy) and T.I. Disney and Marvel announced the start of production on Ant-Man today following all the turmoil involving Edgar Wright dropping out of directing the project and Peyton Reed (Yes Man) stepping into his shoes along with the script getting a bit of an overhaul thanks to Adam McKay and others. Brick Mansions review: bombs away

1 May 2014 12:47 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

This absurd and pointlessly convoluted remake of a decade-old French action flick feels dated and out of step in more ways than one. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have seen the source material (and I am indifferent about it)

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

It’s been years since I saw the 2004 French film, Banlieue 13 — aka District 13 and District B-13 — and I confess that I do not remember being overly impressed by it… but I think would have remembered if it felt quite so absurd and pointlessly convoluted as this lifeless remake.

Written and produced by Luc Besson (Taken 2, Colombiana; he served in the same capacities on the original), and directed by Besson protégé Camille Delamarre (that’s a dude Camille, by the way), this gives us a Detroit of the year 2018 in which crime »

T.I. Joins Will Ferrell In Get Hard

Deadline is reporting today that rapper-actor Tip “T.I.” Harris will be joining Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in Warner Bros.’ upcoming comedy, Get Hard. Directed by Etan Cohen, the Gary Sanchez-produced film will see T.I. playing a man named Joaquin, who is described as “Hart’s streetwise cousin who helps Hart prep Ferrell’s millionaire fraudster for prison.”

Despite being primarily known as a Grammy-nominated rapper, Harris has been slowly but surely building a steady resume of acting credits. His first big role came in the heist thriller Takers, which is actually a guilty pleasure of mine. Since then, he’s shown up in Universal’s Identity Thief and had successful guest star stints on critically acclaimed television shows like House of Lies and Boss. He may not find himself up for an Oscar anytime soon, but T.I. is a likeable and charismatic screen presence and should fit into »
