Crews from the motion picture "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" were expected to film exterior scenes on West Street in New Milford yesterday (Thursday). Rain dates are today (Friday) and Monday May 5.

Police will be assisting with traffic, but residents should expect minor delays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Location director Ellen Athena Catsikeas -- whose parents once owned the former Marathon Restaurant on Route 7 -- told the Town Council Monday an accident would be pre-staged for the filming, but customers would have full access to businesses at the intersection of Bridge and West streets.

Traffic for West Street is being re-routed to Middle Street and Nicholas Square.

The council voted to close the road for the filming, although member John Lillis opposed the action.

He argued people directly affected by filming and the street closure of West Street at Bridge Street should have been informed in enough time to come before the council to either voice approval or disapproval.

Mr. Lillis also argued there should be some payment to the town for "general inconvenience." The location director said the company is prepared to make a donation to the town.

"Pippa Lee" is an independent film written and directed by Rebecca Miller of Roxbury, daughter of the late author Arthur Miller.

The movie's all-star cast includes Robin Wright-Penn, Alan Arkin, Keanu Reeves, and Winona Ryder.

Most of the filming is occurring on private locations in the area.
