I just watched one of the most bizarre movies I think I’ve ever seen in the form of Serious Moonlight. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t say it was bad, just bizarre! It’s directed by Cheryl Hines and stars Meg Ryan, Timothy Hutton, Kristen Bell and Justin Long.
The movie opens with Meg Ryan’s character, Louise, a high-powered lawyer coming home to discover that her husband of 13 years (Timothy Hutton) plans to leave her and move to Paris with his new girlfriend Sara (Kristin Bell). She quickly decides that the only way to stop him from leaving is to smash him over the head with a plant pot and tie him up with gaffer tape!
I opened with the word ‘bizarre’ as this movie takes what could be an emotional trauma and makes fun of it. That said, writer Adrienne Shelley realises that this whole »

The juror panel at the Tribeca Film Festival is going to look like the red carpet at a major Hollywood premiere.
Several celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Whoopi Goldberg, Aaron Eckhart and Brooke Shields, were asked to serve on the six competitive festival categories. They will announce the winning films, filmmakers and actors in their respective categories at the Tff Awards Night Party, which will be held on April 29. The 2010 Tribeca Festival runs from April 21 to May 2 in New York City.

They are distinctive and accomplished storytellers, artists and entrepreneurs from the worlds of film, theater, culture, fashion, television and new media – all of whom share a passion for film, a thirst for discovery and a spirit of independence,” said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Not a ton of exciting stuff in stores this week aside from The Coen Brothers' Oscar-nominated film A Serious Man, but if you're looking for a date movie to watch on Valentine's Day you can take your pick from Couples Retreat, The Time Traveler's Wife, I Hate Valentine's Day, Peter and Vandy, My One and Only and many more! If you prefer something a little more violent and gruesome, on the other hand, you might look at Nicolas Winding Refn's Bronson or The Stepfather. Also out this week is the underrated HBO animated series The Life and Times of Tim: The Complete First Season, the Halo Legends anime collection, and Midgets vs. Mascots featuring Gary Coleman and Scottie Pippen (don't ask). Coen Brothers. Academy Award-nominated. Need more? "The culmination of their lives, reminiscent both of their own suburban childhoods in the '60s, and of their cinematic successes over the last twenty-five years." Michael Stuhbarg stars as "a man utterly at a loss to explain his life's severe turn for the worse; he is a man desperate for answers." (Monika Bartyzel, Cinematical.) Buy it.

Shameless it may be, but "you end up laughing more than expected," I wrote in my review. Vince Vaughan, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell and Kali Hawk star. The comedy is broad and silly, but harsher truths occasionally emerge. Rent it.

Need a good movie to watch while Winter is still nipping outside? I've got a few good new DVD releases to recommend today, including an Oscar nominee and other highly-anticipated movies. In addition to the flicks below, you can also find The Stepfather, Dare, and Serious Moonlight available today as well. Couples Retreat Vince Vaughn, Kristen Bell, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Jason Bateman, and Kristen Davis star in this ensemble about a group of friends who find that their relaxing vacation is actually a relationship boot camp. Couples Retreat is not quite as funny as I was expecting, but it makes a pretty good rental - especially with its gorgeous tropical setting. Extras on the DVD release include an alternate ending, a gag reel, commentary with the director and Vince Vaughn, and three featurettes. 12% A Serious Man The Coen Brothers's latest film, A Serious Man, is a dark comedy featuring »
This week on home video, we've got a handful of brand new releases, but once you cycle through those, there isn't much left to be had. Sure, there are a few Blu-Ray reissues, but not too many that folks are chomping at the bit for, so as a result, we dug deep to find a couple of interesting items that may or may not be good conversation pieces. The most prominent release this week is the latest from the Coen brothers, the Oscar-nominated A Serious Man. Then, we've got a few misses with titles like Couples Retreat, Serious Moonlight, and »
The He's Just Not That Into You co-stars split in 2008 but sparked speculation of a reunion following a string of seemingly romantic dates in recent months.
Long even cut short a promotional event for new movie Serious Moonlight last month to be by Barrymore's side at the premiere of her film Everybody’s Fine.
Sharing about her experience working alongside Christina Aguilera and Cher, Kristen Bell recently sounded off her belief that "Burlesque" will make her a lesbian. The "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" beauty opened up about the matter when talking to Health Magazine.
"I have never felt so much good female energy around me," the 29-year-old said when recalling the production of the Steve Antin-directed drama musical. The actress behind the narrator's voice on "Gossip Girl" went on detailing, "I find that I can't take my eyes off them. I'm 99 percent sure I will leave this movie a lesbian."
In "Burlesque", Kristen Bell takes on the role of Nikki, a troubled performer who is jealous of Christina Aguilera's Ali. Earlier, the Kristen Davis of "Couples Retreat" provided clarification about her part to E! Online, saying "My character is fun and sexy but not a stripper. There is no nudity, and there are no pasties and G-strings. »
