Prison Break: The Final Break - Blu-ray Review

18 September 2009 9:01 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

The cover of the packaging boldly states to .Prepare Yourself for the Truth.! Umm, I think I might have missed the truth? Perhaps it was just a little white lie instead. At any rate, this final chapter (.The Final Break.) caps off the successful .Prison Break. TV series on a completely unnecessary, but reasonably, entertaining note. Admittedly, I never watched the preceding four seasons and while the first season was highly acclaimed, the word on the street is that the series got increasingly long in the tooth, an excellent premise that could only sustain a couple seasons worth of material at best (and, yep, I.m also looking at you, .Lost.). .The Final Break. is a somewhat contained story »

Blu-ray Review: 'Prison Break: The Final Break'

14 August 2009 8:51 AM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

The back side of the Prison Break: The Final Break Blu-ray packaging states that you should "brace yourself for the electrifying final chapter of the Prison Break saga." However, this recently made available DVD and Blu-ray release can best be summarized as an unnecessary and redundant final chapter in the series. Just like the show's premise was stretched beyond recognition, Final Break gets its footing from yet another ridiculous scenario. A pregnant Sara Tancredi, who was previously exonerated of all charges associated with the original break out, is now being incarcerated for killing Michael's mother. And, you guessed it, Michael takes it upon himself to break her out. Add in the fact that The General has ordered a hit on Sara and you've got yourself another impossible predicament for this gang of characters. With only 90 minutes of run time, the film becomes a light speed rehash of things we've seen »

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Prison Break: The Final Break’ a Lackluster Epilogue

29 July 2009 7:24 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Very few shows have plummeted as far from their peak to their ignominious end as did Fox’s once-great “Prison Break”. For proof, look no further than the misguided “Prison Break: The Final Break,” what is essentially a straight-to-dvd epilogue at least here in the United States.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0 “The Final Break” is a film of roughly two-episode length that actually aired overseas but was basically encapsulated in a coda here on the final episode of the show in May. The broadcast finale skipped from the downfall of The Company to reveal that Michael Scofield had died. How did that happen? Find out in “The Final Break,” which, believe it or not, involves one more character going to jail and trying to escape. They sure knew how to beat a dead horse the last few years.

The first season and most of the second were clever thrill rides, a »

'Watchmen' dominates video charts

29 July 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Blu-ray Discs are showing some real clout. The action hit "Watchmen," from Warner Home Video, shot to the top of the national home video sales and rental charts its first week in stores, with 36% of its total unit sales coming from the high-definition edition.

Universal Studios' "Coraline" snagged the No. 2 spot on all three charts -- the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert and Blu-ray Disc sales charts, and Home Media Magazine's rental chart -- and even though the edgy animated hit didn't play straight to the young-male demo that swarmed all over "Watchmen," a solid 18% of its unit sales came from Blu-ray Discs, a surprisingly strong showing that indicates the format is fast moving out of the early adopter phase and into the mainstream.

Summit Home Entertainment's "Knowing" placed third, again on all three charts, with 17% of its sales in its third week of release coming from Blu-ray.

Prison Break: The Final Break DVD Released

22 July 2009 6:19 PM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

I don't know about the rest of you, but I felt sad at the series finale of Prison Break.  Seeing Michael Scofield be excited about his unborn baby one minute and then seeing his grave five minutes later sucked.  I felt a little cheated not knowing how he died.

Then, there was a little thing called "Prison Break: The Final Break".  These bonus episodes consisted of an extra 89 minutes that took place shortly after Michael and the gang were exonerated in the finale.  After seeing exactly how Michael died, I felt a better sense of closure.

I wish that Fox had chosen to air those bonus episodes in North America (they aired in the U.K. and other countries overseas), but it was not meant to be.  Instead, the episodes were released on DVD on July 21, 2009.

A stand-alone DVD, separate from the Season 4 DVD boxset, "The Final Break" tells a »

This Week on DVD: Watchmen, Coraline, Pontypool

21 July 2009 9:13 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Finally after weeks of lacklustre DVD releases, we've got a decent assortment of must-buy discs to gorge on including Zack Snyder's Watchmen (both the theatrical version and the director's cut) and the beautiful stop-motion animated Coraline. There are also some interesting indie releases this week including the superhero comedy Super Capers, the surreal Zach Galifianakis flick Visioneers, and Bruce McDonald's cerebral take on the zombie genre Pontypool (unfortunately, only available in Canada at the moment). In terms of TV, we've got the second and final season of Pushing Daisies, the final season of Prison Break, and all three seasons of the cult British comedy The Mighty Boosh. Is that enough for you? What will you be picking up this week? Watchmen [1] Watchmen: Director's Cut [2] (DVD, Blu-ray [3]) Coraline [4] (DVD, Blu-ray [5]) Pontypool [6] (Canada only) The Great Buck Howard [7] (DVD, Blu-ray [8]) Echelon Conspiracy [9] (DVD, Blu-ray [10]) Visioneers [11] Super Capers [12] The Mystical »

Hope you find something you like... Watchmen Due to its box-office letdown, fanboy defense mechanisms and the high regard held for its source material, like it or not, Watchmen is the release of the week, but it won't be the last time. I reviewed the Blu-ray director's cut, which you can read right here, and inside of it I was sure to remind you there will be yet another release of Watchmen this December. So, it's up to you.
