Quotes

Emerson Cod: [ingratiatingly] Lily! Delighted.
Lily Charles: Can the crap and sell it to the tourists. What are you doing here, Cod?
Emerson Cod: What in the hell are you doing here?
Lily Charles: Waiting for Dwight Dixon.
Emerson Cod: Well, uh, he may, uh, disappoint - men do that. What's with the shotgun?
Lily Charles: Military salute.
Emerson Cod: [incredulously] For Dwight Dixon?
Lily Charles: For Charles! But if I happen to miss and blow Dwight's head off - purely by accident - well, that's something my lawyers can pretty much sort out later.

Chuck lets her father stay alive
2 March 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

After opening up Chuck's father's coffin they agree that Ned will ask his questions for the first thirty seconds then he will let Chuck spend the rest of the minute alone with him; what they didn't agree was that Chuck would put her glove on her father's hand and let Ned touch that so he can play dead and be rescued later! Of course for Chuck's father to live somebody else must die and that person was Dwight Dixon who had at that moment been lining up a rifle on Chuck. Ned is away with Olive for most of the episode, competing in the 'Papen County Comfort Food Cook-Off'. Competition is fierce but nobody expected the favourite, Col. Likkin, to end up deep-fried in his own secret recipe batter! Ned learns that it was murder but can't let onto Olive just how he knows as she isn't in on his secret.

This episode had plenty of funny moments; I loved how the deep fried Col. Likkin enjoyed a bite of his battered self before Ned touched him for a second time; in poor taste perhaps but delicious! Guest star Beth Grant goes a great job as competitor Marianne Marie Beattle; she seems to specialise in such unpleasant characters. The story of Chuck's father is pretty interesting; no doubt there will be some consequences to Dwight Dixon's death later and the mystery of the watches remains to be explained; something to look forward to in later episodes no doubt.
