Oscar Bait: 'You're Not You' with Hilary Swank coming to theaters this year

Let's dust off the old part-time specialty feature "Oscar Bait" with some news on an acquisition, shall we? Now, this time last year a lot of eyes were turned toward Naomi Watts in what seemed like a baity role as Princess Diana in "Diana." Then the film waited for a distributor, and waited, and waited. The writing was on the wall by the time Entertainment One grabbed it and it went nowhere with critics, audiences and, certainly, awards-voting bodies. This year, the upstart distributor has another play that may or may not work out on the circuit, "You're Not You" starring two-time Best Actress Oscar winner Hilary Swank. Emmy Rossum, Josh Duhamel, Loretta Divine, Ernie Hudson and Marcia Gay Harden also star. Here's the official synopsis: "'You're Not You' centers on the relationship between Kate (Swank), a woman who has been immobilized by Als - also known as »

Tsr Blog: ‘Non-Stop’ and Why It’s Safe for Movie Planes to Crash Again

7 March 2014 11:43 AM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Through films like Flightplan, Soul Plane, and White House Down, it has taken over a decade for Hollywood to arrive at Non-Stop.

Showing the vitality of Liam Neeson carrying a gun and a broken heart, Non-Stop recently gave the new action hero one of his biggest box office weekends so far. Involving an air marshal using a particular set of skills to hunt and kill someone threatening his plane (to paraphrase Taken), the film may seem like a generic Neeson actioner. But while his character might be a composite of previous roles, the anxiety he tackles within this film is fresh. Considering its box office success (and my mother’s intense experience in watching the movie), Non-Stop works efficiently as a thriller in 2014 because it provides viewers with imagery of in-flight chaos not seen since before 9/11. It is also the indication of a natural progression for how Hollywood films are »

U.K. Distrib Icon Relaunches with Seven Pic Slate

2 February 2014 11:00 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

London — U.K. distrib Icon Film Distribution has unveiled its new slate following its re-launch last fall with the backing of New Sparta. Pics include “Kill the Trumpet Player,” Don Cheadle’s helming debut about jazz musician Miles Davis, and Lynn Shelton’s comedy “Laggies,” starring Keira Knightley.

The other acquisitions are thrillers “The Guest” and “Cold in July,” musical “The Last Five Years,” soccer drama “Next Goal Wins” and horror “The Babadook.”

As well as helming “Kill the Trumpet Player,” Cheadle (“Crash,” “Hotel Rwanda”) also stars in the project, playing Davis, alongside Ewan McGregor and Zoe Saldana. Cheadle co-wrote the script with Steven Baigelman (“Feeling Minnesota”).

It tells the story of a few dangerous days in the life of Davis as he bursts out of his silent period and conspires with a Rolling Stone writer (McGregor) to steal back his music.

The film, which is in pre-production, is being sold by Im Global. »
