Orson Welles Behind the Screen
gavin694216 April 2013
This brief documentary looks at Orson Welles and Robert Stevenson, and how they came together to make "Jane Eyre". Although Welles is the lead actor, what other part did he have in the production?

We learn about Welles' entourage and how he felt the need to try to take over the film, even though he was not the director. But what do you do when a larger than life personality comes up against a modest director like Stevenson?

Perhaps most interesting is the insinuation that Orson Welles was boosted mostly by "War of the Worlds", but also by being referenced by Adolf Hitler. Indeed, it is quite amazing how quickly Welles' fame rose and he remains known today. Was he a better actor and/or director than his contemporaries? Maybe, maybe not.
