Tony DiNapoli is murdered and his girlfriend Tina Arongino is the suspect. She hires Emerson to prove her innocence. Emerson, Ned and Chuck - looking just like Janis Joplin in this scene - talk to Tony and he tells them he was murdered by Burly Bruce Carter, who killed him with the hands of his girlfriend, a real doll! Meanwhile, The Pie Hole gets competition from Bittersweets, a candy store that has opened across the street and whose owners make it very clear they'll do anything to put The Pie Hole out of business. To make matters even worse, Ned finds the dead body of one of the owners in the candy store at the exact moment the police enters the building... Written by

Dilly's background story references Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds". She is dressed in the same outfit and has the same hairstyle as movie's heroine, played by Tippi Hedron. The movie takes place in Bodega Bay, and at the beginning, the heroine is attacked by seagulls on her way to the town via a speedboat. See more
When Ned is cleaning the mess left by Chuck and Olive in the Bitter Sweets candy shop (i.e. the release of rats), he uses his Digby-petting device. When he goes to retrieve the rat from the vat with pink goo, there is already a prominent amount of goo (albeit dried) on the lower half of the arm/hand. See more
