As of the release of the movie, Don Roy King, who plays the director of DayBreak, is the actual director of NBC's Saturday Night Live (1975) and Robert Caminiti, who plays the assistant director of DayBreak, is the actual assistant director of "Saturday Night Live".
Many of the news broadcasts shown in the movie are actual stories aired during the Iowa Floods of 2008. Cedar Rapids is the city mentioned on one of the shows in the background where 400 city blocks were under water.
Reese Witherspoon dropped out from the role of Becky.

There is no television studio in the US that is actually called "IBS," most likely because in the English Language, the abbreviation "IBS" is most often used for the digestive system disorder "Irritable Bowel Syndrome." These initials were possibly chosen deliberately to tie into the humiliatingly scatological theme of the report that airs on the show early in the movie.
