Storyline

Becky (Rachel McAdams) is a hard-working morning TV show producer, or at least she was until she got fired. Desperate to get a job, she finally gets an interview with Jerry (Jeff Goldblum) - who is desperate to hire a producer for the struggling show "Daybreak". Becky accepts the job and it proves to be more difficult than even she might be able to handle. She has to fire the sexist co-host, then try to convince egotistical news reporter, Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford), to take the job, and then try and get him to actually do the job, properly. And she has to do this while falling for handsome Adam (Patrick Wilson), and trying to save the show from plummeting ratings. Will Becky be able to hold on to her dream job and her sanity? Trivia

There is no television studio in the US that is actually called "IBS," most likely because in the English Language, the abbreviation "IBS" is most often used for the digestive system disorder "Irritable Bowel Syndrome." These initials were possibly chosen deliberately to tie into the humiliatingly scatological theme of the report that airs on the show early in the movie. See more »

Goofs

When Mike is rehearsing for his debut on the show he has a white coffee mug in front of him. A stage hand walks by and takes it. The next scene is Becky and Lenny in the control room watching the monitors, and the white cup is still in front of Mike. See more »

Mike Pomeroy: Why do we have to mention that first cup of coffee? Why not just say, "Watch Mike Pomeroy before your morning dump?"

Motivational and Funny Movie!
9 November 2010 | by (White Marsh Lowe's Theater on the Avenue) – See all my reviews

I saw the screening of this movie last night and was pleasantly surprised that this was not another "chick flick". The story focuses around a young female producer that is hard working and hoping to get her dream job of Executive Producer (EP) of a well known TV morning show. Instead, she is accepted into the EP position on a failing TV morning show. Dedicated to her career, which was her dream since age 8, she has little time for men and romance. As the story progresses she has countless obstacles she must overcome and a high amount of stress that comes with the job. There are many comical scenes as the producer is practically at wits end during the main duration of the movie. She doesn't seem to lose her cool much of the movie, and when she does become infused with anger or passion she is constructive in using it to complete her job. This is a feel good story that shows with hard work, dedication (following a dream since age 8!), a bit of luck, and having faith in yourself, you can accomplish your goals. A nice change from the current female lead characters currently out there.

I left the theater thinking about my own career and how I could improve myself or work ethics. This movie is definitely a go-see!
