[Embedcode {}] Demi Lovato has impressive impressions! The "Confident" singer showed off her vocal chops during Friday's appearance on The Tonight Show when she battled host Jimmy Fallon in the fan favorite Musical Impressions game. Following her amazing cover of Lionel Richie's "Hello" at the Grammys, Lovato, 23, further proved her impressive singing abilities by taking on the voices of Burlesque costars Christina Aguilera and Cher. She began by copying Cher's signature androgynous timbre with "Bingo Was His Name-o." As for her impression of Aguilera, who is well-known for beautifully belting out a note, Lovato channeled the Voice coach for the theme song from Spongebob Squarepants. »

The 33 movie review: swallowed up by the earth

27 January 2016 9:11 AM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

A missed opportunity to tell what should be a captivating real-life disaster tale that is instead plodding, scattershot, and lacking in dramatic impetus. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

In 2010, as you may recall from the news, 33 men were trapped thousands of feet underground when the Chilean gold mine they were working in collapsed. They had minimal supplies, and, at first, no way of even letting those aboveground know that they were still alive. When they finally emerged 69 days later, it was the result of a global effort, and was seen on TV around the planet by more than a billion people. Basically, it’s The Martian times 33, except real. So it’s a shame that The 33 is a missed opportunity to tell what should be a »

Star Wars: Interview with Michael Kaplan

21 January 2016 10:56 PM, PST | Clothes on Film | See recent Clothes on Film news »

Surely we all know Michael Kaplan by now? Flashdance (1983), Fight Club (1999), Burlesque (2010), Star Trek (2009), and the biggest of the big, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Versatile is not a generous enough word for his talent; he is literally one of the best in the business, as his Cdg (Costume Designers Guild) nomination for Star Wars goes some way to proving.

I spoke to Mr Kaplan just after Christmas about his work for The Force Awakens, but due to unforeseen circumstances (basically Clothes on Film HQ flooding), this interview is only being posted now. Still much to enjoy though, and plenty of costume titbits to sift through.

Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux (minus cap) and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren (with mask).

You’ve said before you are not necessarily a Star Wars fanboy. How did that affect your approach to The Force Awakens?

Don’t get me wrong; I saw and loved the original trilogy, »

6 January 2016 6:00 AM, PST | Scott Feinberg | See recent Scott Feinberg news »

By Patrick Shanley

Managing Editor

The race for best original song at this year’s Academy Awards includes a number of big name recording artists whose work for film has been generating significant Oscar buzz.

In past years the category has seen a number of popular, chart-topping performers take home the statuette, including John Legend and Common’s “Glory” from last year’s best picture nominee Selma, about Martin Luther King’s historic march for civil rights and 2013’s “Skyfall”, performed and co-written by British songstress Adele with co-writer Paul Epworth, for the 007 film of the same name.

This year another James Bond theme is in the hunt for best original song, as Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall”, co-written with accomplished British songwriter James Napier (a.k.a. Jimmy Napes), the Spectre title track that became the first No. 1 in Bond theme history, has earned a Golden »
