Costume Designer Michael Kaplan Confirmed for Star Wars VII

Securing perhaps the biggest costume job going at the moment, Michael Kaplan has officially been chosen as costume designer for Star Wars Episode VII. It was on his IMDb page for a short while (later removed), but now the appointment has been corroborated by the man himself. “I am very excited to be working on Star Wars” Kaplan confirms to Clothes on Film “I’m so looking forward to collaborating, once again, with Jj.”
Kaplan is now director J.J. Abrams’ regular costume designer having worked with him on Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. Evidently after two terms with Abrams on Star Trek, Kaplan has the sci-fi chops necessary to tackle arguably a denser franchise with even greater fan expectation. Get it right and he could have an Oscar to put alongside his BAFTA statuette and Costume Designers Guild awards, get it wrong and there will be nowhere to hide, »

Michael Kaplan’s career is one film after another of “wow, he did that?” cinema: Blade Runner, Flashdance, Seven, Fight Club, Burlesque, plus dozens more. Kaplan’s connection to Star Trek began as costume designer on J.J. Abrams’ reboot in 2009, and now he is back for the sequel. Despite admitting he was no expert in the world of Star Trek before signing on, his work on both movies has been praised; particularly the Enterprise crew uniforms (that reoccurring Starfleet pattern is a classy touch).
Here chatting exclusively to Clothes on Film, Michael Kaplan explains his approach to costuming Star Trek Into Darkness (out everywhere this week).

TNT’s headline is looking all kinds of right this week. Michael Bay? Good. Apocalypse? Good. Action? Good. Drama? Good. We’re ready and so is the network. They’ve given an official 10-episode series order to The Last Ship.
“The Last Ship has all the elements of a big Hollywood blockbuster, from its epic storytelling to its top-notch cast headed by the perfect leading man, Eric Dane,” said TNT’s head of programming Michael Wright.
Now that’s a name that sound ring some bells. The Private Practice and Burlesque star is headlining the new series from Bay, producer of the Transformers big screen franchise.
The Last Ship is one of two pilots at TNT that were awaiting a series order, reported Deadline. Legends, the second one, hasn’t received official word yet.

Good news for Cher fans: the enduring singer is back with a new album.
Cher released her last studio album of new material, "Living Proof," in 2001. Now, Cher is returning with a "f--king amazing" new album. Originally hyped for a March release, Cher now says that her new music will hit stores in September. The album is rumored to include collaborations with P!nk, Lady Gaga, and Christina Aguilera. The 66-year-old Cher worked with Aguilera on her most recent musical project: the soundtrack to 2010's "Burlesque," which the duo starred in.
Cher has been tweeting about the progress of her album, alerting fans this week that she was working on the last song, before announcing that the project was completed on Sunday. The Goddess of Pop gave an early listen to Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears, who contributed to the album.

Among the successful ones this week were dancing partners Aj and Chloe and Northern Irish singer Jordan O'Keefe.

CBS: Miami actor Adam Rodriguez has signed on for a new CBS drama pilot titled Reckless. The pilot comes from CSI: Miami producer CBS TV Studios. Wait until you get a load of the other cast members.
Reckless takes place in Charleston, South Carolina. Deadline reports that the plot revolves around Jamie, a very attractive lady lawyer who happens to be a Yankee, and Roy, a Southern attorney. Jamie is played by Deception actress Anna Wood and Roy is Twilight hottie Cam Gigandet, also of Burlesque.
The pair of lawyers must struggle to deny their growing physical attraction when they find themselves on opposite sides of a police sex scandal.

Bruce Willis’ return as John McClane, A Good Day to Die Hard, topped the box office over the Friday-to-Sunday period, but with a weaker-than-expected $25 million. Fox’s $92 million thriller, which also stars Jai Courtney (pictured, right), earned $8.2 million on Thursday, its first day of release, and after four days, it’s earned $33.2 million. That’s a substantially weaker start than 2007′s Live Free or Die Hard, which started with $33.4 million in its opening three-day weekend.
