Storyline

In the mid-70s, near Reno, Grace Bontempo runs the Love Ranch, a legal brothel. Her husband Charlie, with big dreams, a felony record, and an aptitude for spending and infidelity, is the brothel's public face. On the day Grace's doctor tells her she has cancer in an advanced state, Charlie takes on new client, Argentine boxer Armando Bruza, Charlie's ticket to fame: he hopes to promote a fight with Ali. Because of Charlie's felonies, Grace is Bruza's titular manager. With the IRS and the church ladies circling the business, Grace takes the manager's role seriously and, along the way, Bruza charms her. Secrets play out: is there love at the Love Ranch? How will Charlie respond? Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>

Brilliant Helen Mirren
21 August 2011 | by (United Arab Emirates) – See all my reviews

Beautiful art of a subtle description. Essence of an enigma and a splendid Helen Mirren. A touching story about a woman and his power, about his mask and fear, about a empty solitude and delicate silence. The value of film is not the death of myth or image of truth about a history victim but the science to describe a magnificent interior fight and the soul of an ice statue. Love Ranch is sarcastic, failed in love, delicate or cruel. His human aspects are more relevant for the taste of period than words of golden legend. She is not saint and not victim, not butcher or monster, spider or heroine and in same mode, stake of film is the vulnerability of queen like sum of words, gestures, reactions or laugh.

In same measure, Joe Piscappo acting is impressive. The spoiled boy, the sentimental slick-gent, the favorite and the vanity's victim are images sketched with grace and in charming mode.

In fact, a beautiful film about impressive ranching, escape from the Bette Davis or Cate Blanchette effigies. And a brilliant Helen Mirren.
