Storyline

Ted is relating to his kids the story of a woman he met over the Internet in 2007 whose name he no longer remembers, so refers to her only as "Blahblah". Before meeting her, Barney believes Blahblah is probably crazy as are all women prowling the Internet for a hook-up, but that she is probably hot to overcome that craziness. After the gang meets Blahblah, Barney's assertions are strengthened. But in getting to know Blahblah and Blahblah getting to know everyone else, the gang discuss the first time each met the other. Lily and Marshall have told their story so often that they have it down to a fine art. But everyone else's story may have the same basic structure from both parties involved, but it's the subtleties that seem to differ. The story of Ted and Lily's first meeting is especially troublesome, and the true details which may never be totally known unless an impartial third party who may have been more lucid at the event comes forward. Trivia

Barney's hot/crazy chart features the "Mendoza diagonal;" a girl below the diagonal is to be avoided. In baseball, the "Mendoza line" refers to a batting average of .200; a hitter below the line is having a terrible year. See more »

Goofs

When Barney uses his hot/crazy graph with the example of a girl he dated he uses the graph wrong. He said that she loses ten pounds which indicates she's got hotter but instead he draws a line which actually said she's got less crazy. And the following line should be that she got crazier but instead he draws a line that said she's getting hotter and crazier, and finally he again draws a line that makes the girl less crazy instead of hotter. Quotes

Barney Stinson: [Flashback of the first time Ted and Barney met] Tonight's the first time I'm taking my deaf brother out since our mom died.
Ted Mosby: Oh, I'm sorry about that.
Barney Stinson: No, it's OK. I have to take care of him now. Of course, I have had to put my dreams on hold in order to do it, but I'm happy to.
[Starts crying]
Barney Stinson: He's my brother and I love him. I'm sorry, it's all still so fresh.
Ted Mosby: Oh man, I'm really sorry.
Barney Stinson: Wow, you bought that?
Ted Mosby: What?
Barney Stinson: I just made that up mid-pee. It worked on you, it's definitely gonna work on that ...

The Hot/Crazy scale
11 December 2014 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

We first see Barney's Hot/Crazy scale in this episode.

Plot In A Paragraph: Ted turns up at the bar with a girl who he met on the Internet. Embarrassed by this she asks him to go along with a fake story of how they met. Barney insists if she is hot, then she must be crazy, as hot sane girls do not pick up men on the Internet. He then shows Ted the Hot/Crazy scale. Meanwhile thought the course of the night and Ted tells the story of how he met everyone else, we see how Teds date ranks on Barney's scale.

The severe where Barney explains the Hot/Crazy scale is one of my favourites of this season. It's simply brilliant
