Deon Taylor To Helm "Akuma"

Deon Taylor ("The Hustle," "Chain Letter") will next direct supernatural thriller "Akuma" for Screen Media Films reports Coming Soon.

The story follows a young Japanese woman trying to put her life back together only to realise she's fighting against something dark. A Fall 2012 release is planned. Taylor, Blayne Weaver and Joe Bockol co-wrote the script while Taylor and Roxanne Avent will produce.

Shooting begins November 10th in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Japan. »

Okay, so we're not talking about the director of Chain Letter making a Street Fighter movie or anything like that, but Deon is just about ready to start on his latest frightful endeavor. Read on for details.

It was announced today that multi-hyphenate writer, director and producer Deon Taylor (The Hustle, Chain Letter, Nite Tales: The Movie, Dead Tone) has chosen Akuma as the next feature film project for his new Hidden Empire Film Group label. New York-based Screen Media Films, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Screen Media Ventures, LLC, has secured worldwide distribution rights to the horror film and is planning on the Us theatrical release next fall.

Taylor will direct the film and produce alongside Roxanne Avent. Taylor also wrote the screenplay with Blayne Weaver and Joe Bockol.

Screen Media Films has announced that Deon Taylor (The Hustle, Chain Letter, Nite Tales, Dead Tone) will next direct Akuma (Japanese for "Demon"), a supernatural tale planned for release in the fall of 2012.

Taylor will direct the film and produce alongside Roxanne Avent from a screenplay that he wrote with Blayne Weaver and Joe Bockol.

The movie, which Taylor describes as a mix between Paranormal Activity and The Exorcist, follows a young Japanese woman, Akira, who is looking to put her life back together after a recent tragedy. As she pushes hard to overcome these problems she soon realizes that she's fighting something very dark.

It is noted that the film will employ a "handheld style" in the shooting, which will take place in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Japan and San Francisco, beginning November 10th. »

New Release: urban comedy The Hustle DVD

Screen Media will release the urban comedy movie The Hustle on DVD on July 5 for the list price of $24.98.

Here’s the film’s story: Falling upon a large sum of mob money which they then proceed to lose, Freddie Manning (Al Shearer, Glory Road) and his cynical best friend, Junior (Charlie Murphy, TV’s Chappelle’s Show) find themselves owing $10,000 to an Asian crime boss and his spicy daughter (Bai Ling, Love Ranch)–which they have to repay in seven days!

Lots of familiar faces pop up in this one, including David Alan Grier (Little Man), Tony Cox (Bad Santa), Tiny Lister (Extreme Prejudice), Tamala Jones (TV’s Castle) and even Brigitte Nielsen (Beverly Hills Cop II)!!
