Storyline

Set in France in the 1400s Frys translation of Annouiles classic masterpiece, The Lark follows the amazing and tragic life of Joan of Arc, and tells how this simple peasant girl convinces the King of France to allow her to lead his army to war against the English, simply because the voices told her to do so. The story is told from the very lips of Joan of Arc, as she provides her engaging defence to the religious zealots and inquisitors of the time. While the actual records of the trial are vague, Anouiles take on the life of Joan of Arc provides a powerful insight into the possible motivations of this young woman and also those of her supporters and persecutors.
