‘Cardboard Boxer’ Trailer: Thomas Haden Church Struggles To Escape Dark World of Fighting Homeless Men for Pay

Knate Lee, known for producing the Johnny Knoxville-led “Jackass 3D” and “Bad Grandpa,” has stepped behind the camera to direct his first feature film “Cardboard Boxer,” starring Thomas Haden Church.

The drama – which appears to have skipped the festival circuit – centers on Willie (Church), a homeless man who is paid by two rich teens to fight other men for cash and then struggles to escape the dark world he’s gotten himself into. With the help of a new pen-pal and a trusting new friend (Terrence Howard), he hopes to turn his life around.

Written by Lee, “Cardboard Boxer” also co-stars “Narcos’s” Boyd Holbrook, Rhys Wakefield, and musician Macy Gray. Check out the first trailer below.

Paramount Promotes Peter Giannascoli to Co-President of Domestic Marketing

19 August 2016 5:31 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Paramount Pictures has promoted veteran executive Peter Giannascoli to the post of co-president of domestic marketing to lead creative marketing and advertising efforts.

The move comes a month after the studio tapped Google executive Rebecca Mall as co-president of domestic marketing and launched its first-ever brand strategy division and moved Steve Siskind out of the domestic marketing post and into home entertainment. Giannascoli will jointly run the department with Mall.

As part of the executive shuffle, Erik Counter is leaving his post as president of worldwide creative marketing.

Giannascoli will report to Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore and oversee all creative marketing efforts including creative content, digital creative and creative advertising. The research teams will also report into him.

“As a longtime member of the Paramount family, Peter is a gifted marketer and a well-respected veteran who has led numerous successful marketing campaigns for our studio,” said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey. »

NYC Weekend Watch: Alain Resnais, Theo Angelopoulos, ‘Last Tango In Paris’ & More

7 July 2016 7:07 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Since any New York cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

Metrograph

“Welcome to Metrograph: A to Z” has a packed weekend with a slate that includes Alain Resnais‘ Je t’aime, je t’aime, Nicholas Ray‘s The Lusty Men, Jackie Brown, and, yes, Jackass 3D.

Baumbach & Paltrow‘s De Palma plays with a Jim McBride feature on Saturday and two De Palma shorts on Sunday. »
