A Rare Season 4 Stand-Out Episode
kgraovac10 November 2023
Lucy misreads the price tag on a dinette set (it's $99 not $66-silly Lucy!) and takes a part-time job at the department store to pay for the difference.

After a string of episodes that ranged from mediocre to downright embarrassing, we finally get a very good offering. Not a series classic - but it's a rare Season 4 episode that's entertaining from start to finish. Many of this season's shows suffer from having only one good scene but this script is very consistent in its' comedy, from an opening scene with Lucy battling a frenzied mob of shoppers, to the finale that has her clowning with the props in the Sporting Goods department, which puts Lucy on stilts again.

This one definitely benefits from the presence of the two snooty customers who are played by Barbara Morrison and Elvia Allman. Allman's scene in the Hat Department is a riot, and she normally didn't play these kinds of "flashy dame" roles. There's a smaller bit earlier on with a blonde shopper who grabs a sweater from Lucy. The actress must have been studying Carol Burnett very closely.

In a Season without any real gems, this is one of the best of slim pickings.
