Colin Fitzhugh, an unprincipled, down-on-his-luck horserace handicapper, helps tout a beautiful American into buying a losing horse with a surprisingly good pedigree. She discovers the truth, shames him into a change of heart, and enters the thoroughbred into the Sweepstakes. She persuades him into training him even though he knows he's risking life and limb by bucking a shady bookmaker.
