The village of Dunstan, where this episode takes place, seems to be the village where Detective Sergeant Jones grew up, as he attended the same primary school and is acquainted with several of the protagonists from childhood. How this reconciles with the Sergeant's Welsh accent is never explained.

Maggie Steed, who plays Lynne Fox in this episode, has appeared in Midsomer Murders previously. She played Most Beautiful Village co-judge Rosemary Furman in _"Midsomer Murders" Judgement Day (2000)_.

The pub in which Mark Purdy's stags night takes place is named "The Six Bells". The same establishment was also used as a filming location in the episode _"Midsomer Murders" Second Sight (2005)_, in which the pub was named "The Luck in the World".

Barnaby watches on as Alyssa Bradley's house is demolished at the end of the episode. This scene was in fact shot several weeks later than the rest of the episode, when the cottage was being demolished in real life.

Given the use of several child actors in this episode, health and safety issues were paramount. For the scene in which Patrick Bradley leaps from the bridge into the river, a stunt double of short stature was used.
