Both Matthew Flynn, who plays Jack Purdy and 'Caroline Laskowsha', who plays the young woman with a baby visited by Lynne Fox at the start of the episode, appeared previously in _"Midsomer Murders" Hidden Depths (2005)_.
The village where this episode was largely filmed, Warborough in Oxfordshire, has appeared in several previous Midsomer Murders episodes, including "Market for Murder", "Bad Tidings", "Sins of Commission", "Second Sight" and "The House in the Woods".
The pub in which Mark Purdy's stags night takes place is named "The Six Bells". The same establishment was also used as a filming location in the episode _"Midsomer Murders" Second Sight (2005)_, in which the pub was named "The Luck in the World".
The village of Dunstan, where this episode takes place, seems to be the village where Detective Sergeant Jones grew up, as he attended the same primary school and is acquainted with several of the protagonists from childhood. The Sergeant's Welsh accent is true to character though, since his family moved from Wales to this village when the Sergeant was a child.

Given the use of several child actors in this episode, health and safety issues were paramount. For the scene in which Patrick Bradley leaps from the bridge into the river, a stunt double of short stature was used.
Barnaby watches on as Alyssa Bradley's house is demolished at the end of the episode. This scene was in fact shot several weeks later than the rest of the episode, when the cottage was being demolished in real life.
