IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

NO SAFE PLACE seems to be about a young female ghost haunting a guy, but maybe something else is going on. Maybe the guy was "haunting" the ghost, when the ghost was a young woman. It's up to Melinda to figure out what's what, and this one turns into something of a murder mystery along the lines of a MURDER SHE WROTE episode. Only with Jennifer Love Hewit with her low-cut outfits instead of an 80-year-old Angela Lansbury, if you get my meaning. As I recall, Jay Mohr is nowhere to be seen in this episode, more's the pity. I could be wrong, of course. I just wish the writers would do something more with the husband. He's there to say yes and no to her, and hold her when she's scared. And that's about it.
