The second episode of the third season has Melinda facing off against Bloody Mary, a ghastly specter from the past who was buried alive and has come back to wreak her vengeance on anyone who dares call her name three times while spinning in front of a mirror. Sound familiar? It should. It's CANDYMAN in drag, and the episode does a pretty good job of reworking the Candyman mythos. A series of college gals have fallen prey to Mary's spirit, and it's up to Melinda to stop the onslaught. Melinda doesn't buy the entire Bloody Mary legend, and suspects something else may be going on. We get some pretty strong imagery for a family-oriented network show, including that of Mary's corpse, before and after she has been buried. Unfortunately, we also get a return visit by the boring bad boy ghost in the town's public archives room -- although he does provide Melinda with some important information about the Bloody Mary legend. Jay Mohr also is back as Melinda's university contact and sometimes buddy. For the straight guys who watch this show, Jennifer Love Hewitt twirls in front of a mirror, wearing an incredibly tight, low-cut, baby blue stretch-knit top. Worth the price of admission right there, for a show largely oriented to female viewers.
