ADVENTURES OF THE FALCON – Dawn's Early Light - 1955
This is the 36th episode of the 39 episode run of the 1954 to 1956 series, ADVENTURES OF THE FALCON. Film noir icon Charles McGraw headlines as Mike Waring, an agent of the U.S. Government. The series follows McGraw as he travels the world putting the kibosh on various criminals and foreign agents. The series is loosely based on the FALCON series of films of the 1940's.
Government trouble shooter Charles McGraw is sent to San Diego to look into some housing contractors. The Government has learned that the mob is doing a bit of "protection racket" on the contractors. Pay up or have your places torched type thing.
The Government had an undercover man doing some wiretapping, but the man was discovered and the tape recording taken. They also worked over the agent leaving him less than lively. The only witness is Lois Collier. Collier is a WAVE on leave from the local Navy Base.
Our boy Chuck McGraw is sent in to get the goods on the villains. What McGraw does not know is that two different mobs, one west coast, and the other east coast, are fighting over the racket. We have Hugh Sanders and Douglas Kennedy playing the Eastern interlopers. Ted de Corsia and John Gallaudet work for the local mob. Also in the mix is Mae Clarke as the boss of the local boys.
McGraw of course gets in the middle of the war and catches beatings from both groups. He finally tumbles to the war between the two gangs and uses this to his advantage. With help from the pretty WAVE, Collier, he soon recovers the missing tape recordings. These put everyone who is in on the scam in deep water. The tape and the crooks are all delivered to the proper authorities.
Mae Clarke of course is best known from the 1931 Cagney film, PUBLIC ENEMY. She is the woman who gets the grapefruit mushed in her face. The fight scenes between the 5 foot 10 de Corsia and the 6 foot 4 Kennedy are a hoot. Once the fight starts, de Corica, is replaced by a stuntman who towers over the tall Kennedy.
