Hamlet 2 is taken from a screenplay written by American screenwriters Andy Fleming and Pam Brady.

Hamlet 2 is the story of a high school drama teacher who brings his drama class together with a play called Hamlet 2, which is indeed a sequel to Shakespeare's Hamlet (albeit with very little consistency).

Although it takes plays in Tucson, Arizona, the movie is actually filmed in the neighboring state of New Mexico, in Albuquerque. To most people unfamiliar with those two towns specifically, much of their shared northern Mexican and southwestern American culture allows Albuquerque to fairly easily stand in for Tucson.

According to an interview with the director, this film is narrated by Steve Coogan himself, doing the narration with a bit of an Ian McKellen/Jeremy Irons style.
