Pete Rose of the National League was criticized for his all-out, take-no-prisoners play when he collided into American League catcher Ray Fosse at home plate. Rose scored the winning run, but the all-out style of the fabled "Charle Hustle" was criticized as being inappropriate for an exhibition game when the injured Fosse had to be taken to a local hospital for observation.
