Kristen Stewart Eyed for ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Reboot (Exclusive)

29 September 2017 9:11 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Kristen Stewart is being eyed for the “Charlie’s Angels” reboot, according to sources close to the project.

The “Twilight” star would play one of the members of the female private detective agency. Stewart’s is not the only name being considered. Casting is under way, and Sony, the studio behind the film, is also interested in several other big names, including Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o.

Elizabeth Banks, who scored with “Pitch Perfect 2,” is directing the film. It’s slated for a summer 2019 release, and Sony clearly has franchise hopes for the project.

Stewart has focused largely on indie fare in recent years, earning raves for her work in “Still Alice,” “Cafe Society,” and “Personal Shopper.” She hasn’t headlined a major studio tentpole film since “Snow White and the Hunstman” in 2010. She will appear in Fox’s “Underwater,” which centers on a crew of underwater researchers scrambling with the fallout from an earthquake.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer: We Need to Be Disruptors

12 September 2017 7:22 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Lionsgate Chairman Jon Feltheimer reassured shareholders on Tuesday that the studio behind “Twilight” and “Orange is the New Black” will be able to take advantage of the technological changes upending the media business. His remarks come as the summer box office has hit its lowest levels in nearly two decades, and as streaming services such as Netflix continue to build their audiences, providing compelling alternatives to tradition cable services. Lionsgate has weathered the headwinds better than some, it scored with the late summer release “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” and its stock is up 50% from the last time the stockholders gathered in Toronto.

“We spend a lot of our time thinking about the challenges created by a fragmented box office and a television business in which cord cutters and cord nevers are rewriting all of the rules,” Feltheimer said at the company’s annual meeting held at Toronto’s Shangri-La Hotel. “But »

Lionsgate Chief Says ‘Hunger Games,’ ‘Twilight’ Have ‘More Stories to Tell’

8 August 2017 4:05 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer hinted to Wall Street that the studio isn’t ready to roll the credits on its “Hunger Games” and “Twilight” franchises. He implied, however, that the company will only go forward with fresh installments or spinoffs in the blockbuster series if they get the sign off from “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer and “Hunger Games” creator Suzanne Collins.

“There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories,” Feltheimer said during a quarterly earnings call with analysts on Tuesday.

The Lionsgate chief didn’t just consign himself to predictions about the future of Katniss Everdeen and Edward Cullen. He also expressed optimism about the prospects for a grand bargain between studios and theater owners that will enable movies to hit home entertainment platforms weeks or even months earlier. All that’s needed, he said, »
