Susan Sarandon And Tim Robbins' Split, 'Crazy Heart' And Stray Peacocks In Today's Twitter-Wood

23 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Jeff Bridges' performance in "Crazy Heart" was good enough for the Golden Globes, and it was good enough for Rob Zombie as well, judging by his tweets. Kevin Smith, meanwhile, had a positively-used expletive to describe his own experience watching Edgar Wright's unreleased "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

Less giddy was producer Jeff Katz, who used a sports metaphor to express his reaction to news that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have split. I'll let you parse and interpret that one, as his references to Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno went a little over my head. You can do so after the jump where you will also learn about Ice-t's recent "Modern Warfare 2" accomplishments, when Emmy Rossum will begin taking trapeze lessons and who found a stray peacock in their back yard. It's all retweeted in Twitter-Wood report for December 23, 2009.

Boos! & Whoop-doos!: 12 Months of Toilet Plunkers and Dumpster Diamonds!

23 December 2009 9:55 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The End of 2009? Whoop-doo! This year has been one hellatious shit storm from the get-go. Pregnant ladies and babies, The Great Depression Part II, pig flu, more than a handful of horrible shootings, a balloon boy, Tiger's indiscretions, and our first black president. Not to mention more dead celebrities than I can shake a stick at. Every time I turned around, some other atrocious calamity was happening right before my eyes. Making 2009 one of the most interesting years of this entire decade. According to Michael Ruppert in his film Collapse its only going to get worse before it gets better. Yes, the Teens are going to see more than half of your friends and family dead. Take account of the folks around you. By the time 2020 rears its ugly head, most of these people will be gone. Turned to dust and painful memories. My advice to you this coming New Year? »

Sony Update (Dec. 17-23) Part 2 & Premium Avatars!

23 December 2009 9:25 AM, PST | GameRant | See recent GameRant news »

Normally, we update our readers on PlayStation release content every Thursday alongside the routine PlayStation Network updates. However, due to the upcoming holidays, the Psn has been updated early with a number of notable offerings, so we’ve added an addendum to this week’s update.

This particular update focuses only on PlayStation Network releases. If you happened to miss part one – make sure to check it our retail release info as well as our reaction to the Gran Turismo 5: Time Trial Challenge Demo, among other offerings on the Psn.

As for this week, the LittleBigPlanet “Pirates of the Caribbean” level kit and costumes have officially been released – along with the long awaited “Water” gameplay mechanic. The level kit, as we previously reported, includes both the water add-on for level creation as well as several “Pirates of the Caribbean” themed levels (similar to the Metal Gear Solid pack), and »

New Tekken poster

23 December 2009 7:06 AM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Are you wondering what in 2010 could possibly compete with 2009's dynamic duo of The Legend Of Chun Li and Dragonball Evolution? Well, look no further than Tekken, the fighting game-turned-film starring nearly no one you've ever heard of. Below is the latest poster for the project, which I believe I've seen floating around for a little while, but I figured I'd post it now. I understand the movie is based on a game, but was it really necessary to CGI your lead character? I mean, isn't that kind of missing the point of bringing this to real life? »

Jaimie Alexander Discusses 'Thor' Rehearsals, Debunks Justin Chatwin Casting Rumor

22 December 2009 7:51 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

With director Kenneth Branagh’s highly anticipated “Thor” adaptation set to begin shooting next month, actress Jaimie Alexander has been constantly updating fans with info from the upcoming film.

According to Alexander's Twitter feed, several members of the cast assembled in Los Angeles for rehearsals. “[I] met Anthony Hopkins today... Such a lovely man. Such a pleasure,” wrote Alexander. Later, she added “[I] can't stop staring at Thor's arms... Chris [Hemsworth] is Huge!”

Alexander also took the time to refute a growing rumor that Justin Chatwin (“Dragonball Evolution”) had been cast as Thor’s loyal ally, Balder the Brave. “Justin Chatwin isn't going to be in ‘Thor’,” revealed Alexander. “Just clearing up another rumor. Sleep well out there.”

Back in September, Alexander joined the cast of “Thor” as Sif, a fierce warrior goddess who has vied for Thor’s heart in the past. While Alexander has previously written about her intense »

The best and worst comic book movies of 2009 (and your chance to vote)

21 December 2009 6:10 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

On a recent edition of TV review show Film 2009, presenter Jonathan Ross bizarrely (and erroneously) bemoaned the lack of superhero films this year.

Well, 2008 may have had two blockbusters in the form of Iron Man and the headline-dominating entity that was The Dark Knight but this year certainly hasn't been devoid of superheroes on the screen or, more broadly, comic book movie adaptations.

We've had Watchmen and Wolverine along with a few other titles derived from lesser-known comics, not to mention several big movies that have also crossed over into the comic book realm through printed prequels and tie-ins.

So, let's take a look at this year's comic book movies - and then you get a chance to vote for the one you thought was the worst of the bunch.

First, the films whose characters and/or stories were derived from comics:

Atari hit by 'Dungeons & Dragons' suit

20 December 2009 2:50 AM, PST | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Toy firm Hasbro has filed a lawsuit against long-term partner Atari over the game rights to Dungeons & Dragons. The manufacturer has alleged that the studio has entered an unauthorised sublicensing agreement with Namco Bandai. Both firms were working towards an out-of-court settlement in the months prior to the complaint. Hasbro considers Namco Bandai a competitor due to its production of toys and collectibles for a number of its properties, including Naruto and Dragon Ball. A sublicensing agreement with a rival firm is prohibited under the terms of its contract with Atari. Atari refuted the claims, calling them "meritless" and "an apparent attempt to unfairly take (more) »

El Guapo Presents The Top Ten Worst Movies Of 2009!

Top Ten Worst Movies of 2009 **Disclaimer** This list is for entertainment purposes only. No studio is safe. No actor is safe. No movie is safe! You have been warned. What's more fun to read, the best movies of the year, or the crappiest movies of the year? I know as a writer, I Love listing the worst movies of the year. And 2009 had some pretty big stinkers. From failed comedies, (what a shock that a Kate Hudson movie would make the list two years in a row) to failed action flicks to unwatchable "arthouse", 2009 served up a big ol plate of dog crap. So sit back, relax and see if you agree with any of my choices. Yes, I'm well aware that there are 500 million movies out there that went straight to DVD. I'm only listing theatrical releases. I'm sure there are plenty of films I've missed or just didn't see. »

Info Meme

Bryan Singer, who directed the two good X-Men films, is coming back to direct X-Men: First Class, which is evidently an origin story about Professor Xavier’s first students. Obviously, all the original actors except Patrick Stewart are going to be way too old to play themselves in this, so I suppose we’re looking at an all-new cast of hot actors. Singer’s always had excellent taste in hot men. Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, and Angel are who need cast, according to Wikipedia. Ideas?

The cast of the U.S. version of Shameless is starting to take shape. We already knew William H. Macy was Frank, but now we find out Emily Rossum will pick up the Fiona role, Allison Janney (goddess) will play a role that sounds like Sheila, maybe, and Justin Chatwin will be Steve, originated by hunky James McAvoy. The cast is stellar, other than Chatwin, »

Top Ten Tuesday: Worst Movies of 2009

15 December 2009 1:00 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Another year has come and nearly gone, which means it’s once again that time of year to reflect on the cornucopia of movies released in theaters over the last 12 months. While we’re all eager to find out what movies rank amongst the best of 2009, the Movie Geeks prefer to start with the bad news and finish with the good news. So, this week we pull all the stops and lay out the Bottom Ten Worst Movies of 2009.

10. Whiteout

There’s pretty much only one thing this thriller (in name only) has plenty of.  White.  It’s not exciting.  It’s not suspenseful.  It doesn’t make you care one iota whether anyone lives or dies.  It’s really one of those movies that, at the end of the day, is just a waste of space, time, and money.  When your “thriller” gets its culminating action scenes and suspense »

MTV Readers Choose Their Favorite Comic Book Movie Of 2009!

14 December 2009 2:16 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Last week, we asked MTV readers to vote on their favorite comic book movie of 2009, and now the votes are in!

With more than 50 percent of the total votes, "Watchmen" was the top choice among fans — and by a wide margin, too. When all the votes were tallied, Zack Snyder's live-action adaptation of the classic Alan Moore graphic novel was the clear-cut winner over "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which received half as many votes to nab the second-place spot.

However, while many predicted a victory by Rorschach, Nite Owl and the rest of "Watchmen" cast, there were some surprises in the final vote — namely among the animated features.

Here's how the numbers settled out:

Poll Results

Watchmen: 54%

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: 28%

Green Lantern: First Flight: 4%

Wonder Woman: 4%

Hulk Vs.: 3%

Surrogates: 2%

Dragonball Evolution: 1%

Astro Boy: 1%

Whiteout: 0%

Other: 3%

Top 10 Worst Films of 2009

14 December 2009 7:10 AM, PST | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

I saw a lot of terrible films this year, and these are some of the worst. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they aren’t enjoyable of course, and I take quite a bit of pleasure from watching a bad film. They’re in no particular order, and there are links to any that I reviewed in full. Enjoy! Angels and Demons Rome itself was the sole highlight of this absolute shocker. I enjoyed how the scientists at the Cern Large Hadron Collider were portrayed as being a bit iffy about the science behind their experiments. Relentlessly idiotic. Dragonball: Evolution Did anyone else watch this? This is the best film of the year based on a Japanese anime series…oh wait, that would be Blood: The Last Vampire (see below). 80 minutes of big hair, American accents and rubbish special effects. Terminator Salvation Some excellent action set pieces were the only »

Meredith Baxter, Tiger Woods And George Bush In Today's Twitter-Wood

Former "Family Ties" mom Meredith Baxter attracted quite a few tweets when she came out on the "Today Show" this morning. Seth Meyers and Steve Agee, among others, took notice while a few others were still occupied with Tiger Woods.

Kevin Smith has been fielding posts about the title of his movie "A Couple of Dicks," which is getting a new, yet-to-be-determined title. I've included one of his tweets on the subject after the jump along with a former president introducing Jason Reitman's new film, Arnold Schwarzenegger's run-in with George Lucas and Paris Hilton's birthday message to Britney Spears. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 2, 2009.

Tiger Woods, 'New Moon' And Homemade 'Toy Story' Models In Today's Twitter-Wood

30 November 2009 4:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Tiger Woods was a hot topic on Twitter this weekend, and that meant he became a trending topic in Twitter-Wood. Somehow his Cadillac Escalade has become a subject of interest too, particularly with one "Harper's Island" actor who pointed out that the golfer wasn't driving a Buick.

"Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich, meanwhile, retweeted some great shots of homemade models based on the Disney-Pixar series, they're mighty impressive. Also impressive has been the performance by "New Moon" in theaters this month, but Jim Carrey took note of the movie's rabid fans and issues a warning in response. Check out those tweets along with sad news from Emmy Rossum, how to get to Sesame Street and Sarah Silverman's reaction to "Precious." It's all waiting after the jump in the Twitter-Wood report for November 30, 2009.
