  • New in Town is based on a screenplay by writers C. Jay Cox and Ken Rance.

  • New Ulm is a city in southern central Minnesota, about 75 miles due west of Minneapolis with a population of about 13,000. Named after the city of Ulm in southern Germany, New Ulm is a very German city, which was not exploited in the film except for the sign. They have a notable statue of Herman the German (Arminius, who slaughtered the Romans in the Teutenberg Forest). They celebrate Oktoberfest and Fasching, and August Schell (one of the top craft breweries in Minnesota) is found there. They do not speak with the Iron Range accent from the north of the state but with a standard mid-west accent. The movie, however, was filmed in Canada.
