- Anna's brother gets her to drum up business for his drug selling. Julie takes driving lessons, but it's Robyn who the instructor is interested in.
- Home life with Anna Wright has just become complicated. Her big brother, Gordon, is out the nick, remorseful, but temperamental. He just needs some money to get started on a new venture. At school, word has spread about Anna's brother's criminal past, exaggerating his GBH to murder. Kevin can't shake his mother off from delivering him safely outside school. Robyn is determined to find out who Julie's keeping secret: she follows her, but Julie is merely signing up to driving lessons. The winning idea for the House Competition is Jacko's idea - prime ministers of England, but the disinclination to use "Thatcher" as a house name causes the second idea to be used, famous explorers. Gordon, asks Anna to start selling drugs at school - he suggests she starts with the smokers. She approaches them the next day, but chickens out when they challenge her stare. Robyn accompanies Julie to her first driving lesson. They meet Conrad, the dashing young Australian driving instructor, who introduces them to "Sonia" - the name he's given his car. To Julie's disgust, he chats up Robyn, and gets her to sit in the back. In the learner car, Julie scratches the car against a kerb, and Conrad gets her to do some deep breathing, while Robyn has a go with the car. At Anna's home, their mother has returned, a nervous, troubled, woman who would rather be without her errant son. The next morning, Kevin and his mother encounter Sarah-Jane on her bike. She tell's Kevin's mother that Kevin ought to be walking to school on his own, but he doesn't support her claim. Anna plucks up the courage to tell the playground smokers that she has drugs that they can buy. After another driving lesson, Conrad asks Robyn out, but it's not a very satisfactory date, with car-obsessed Conrad talking to his friends rather than her. After the date, he drives to a dark lane, but she immediately gets out and walks home. Julie's next lesson is even worse than before, and she doesn't book any more lessons. Julie is surprised to hear of Robyn's date the next day through Becky. Julie's annoyed at Robyn for upstaging her, but tells her friend that she's given up on the driving - she'll stick to her bike. Later, as she walks home she sees an accident - Sarah-Jane is knocked off her bike by a car as it swerves out of the way of kids exiting a bus. The car's driver rushes out - it is Miss Carver! As Sarah-Jane gets up and walks to the side, it's the teacher who's in a worse state, white with panic at what happened - she faints, caught by Julie. Kevin is nearby too - his concern is that if his mother hears about the accident, he'll never be let out the house at all!—Geffers
