When the new (post-Woods) MPD pathologist arrives and thinks Ortega is still breathing, the CSI team is shot at, she instantly killed and replaced by Dr. Thomas Wellner. At the apartment he fell from a blood stain is found from ATF agent Evan Caldwell, who claims Manny was a rogue informer on illegal ammo trade. Ammo supplier Brad Gower claims to hand-check every bullet under a lucrative 'discrete' deal with Uncle Sam, but it turns out to be an illegal, explosive type. After his confessions he too is shot.
