Did You Know?

Quotes:
Lieutenant Horatio Caine:So, Kathleen Newberry is a no-show, huh?
State Attorney Rebecca Nevins:Yeah. No one can find her, which helps Kyle, of course.
Lieutenant Horatio Caine:I'll send my team up there right now.
State Attorney Rebecca Nevins:Thank you, Horatio.
[Nevins leaves, and Julia approaches]
Julia Winston:Did I hear her say her witness is missing?
Lieutenant Horatio Caine:You did. Where's Kathleen, Julia?
Julia Winston:Why are you asking me that?
Lieutenant Horatio Caine:I'm asking you because you petitioned for custody this morning hours before this proceeding.
Julia Winston:Of course I did. I'd do anything for him now.

We Meet Kyle's Mom & Hortatio's Ex-Flame, 17 October 2008
Author: ccthemovieman-1 from Lockport, NY, United States

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

Horatio's personal life is at least half the story in this episode, actually overshadowing a murder case. Perhaps that is because the mother of Horatio's son is revealed and is involved in the crime.

Earlier in the season, we viewers were introduced to "Kyle," a teen who is Horatio's son from a romance about 15 years ago. The mother flew the coop, much to Horatio's sadness. He didn't know about the boy until this year. No sense going into details since this was covered in an earlier review. Kyle is in jail at present with a kidnapping charge. Horatio is trying to get him released and his mother, whom we discover here is a real con-artist, winds up also wanting custody.

This woman, who is evil (and played by the semi-famous Elizabeth Berkely from "Showgirls" fame), is "JuliaWinston." She had just married a guy for his money and then worked a deal with another con artist to have the man murdered so she could inherit big bucks. Nice, huh? It's very interesting what happens involving all of these characters in this episode.

Fans of this show are treated to how the lab solves the murder and what happens between "H," his son and the kid's mother. One hint: more of this story is sure to be on the way in future episodes, as there is a very dramatic ending to this particular show.
