The working-title "The Way of the Wind" is likely a reference to the Biblical passage Ecclesiastes 11:5: "As thou knowest not what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child; even so thou knowest not the work of God who doeth all."
Was described as featuring a "highly spiritual experience" that puts a "dark genre twist" on the biblical story.
Although filming was completed in 2019, the movie is still being edited by director Terrence Malick as of 2023.
According to one of the main actors Matthias Schoenaerts, Malick spent four months shooting the movie in six different countries, but has been working on it for the last thirty years. It is considered to be his Magnum Opus.
Joseph Mawle previously played Christ in a BBC adaptation of the Passion in 2008.
