Lionsgate Acquires North American Rights to Hammer’s The Quiet Ones

Hammer’s latest productions is The Quiet Ones and Lionsgate has just acquired it for release in North America. According to Deadline, a theatrical release is planned for April 25, 2014. Lionsgate previously acquired UK rights to the movie, which revolves around an experiment to create a poltergeist:
“Starring Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, ‘Mad Men’) and Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), The Quiet Ones will be directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2: Terminal). Joining the cast are Erin Richards (‘Breaking In’, ‘Being Human’), Olivia Cooke (‘The Secret of Crickley Hall’, ‘The Fuse’) and West End theater actor Rory Fleck-Byrne. With the story and original screenplay by Tom DeVille, revisions by Craig Rosenberg, Oren Moverman and most recently John Pogue, the film is produced by James Gay-Rees (Senna, Exit Through The Gift Shop) and Ben Holden in association with Tpsc Films. »

Unbelievably once upon a time House at the End of the Street was a directorial project for Jonathan Mostow with Richard Kelly writing the screenplay, but this was back in 2003 before both Terminator 3 and Southland Tales. You could argue about what the better choice was in terms of both moving on but it becomes very apparent half way through the film that there was clearly nothing to the material that either hadn’t been done before or hadn’t been derived from about twenty separate sources.
Current Hollywood darling Jennifer Lawrence plays a teenager who moves with her mother to a new quiet neighbourhood from Chicago after a messy divorce. As she learns fairly quickly from the obnoxious neighbours, a house in their street drives prices down due to the fact that a young girl murdered both her parents there and fled the scene into the woods never to be found. »

Holy Motors; Looper; ParaNorman; House at the End of the Street; Now is Good
What the hell is Holy Motors (2012, Artificial Eye, 18) all about? Leos Carax's first feature film for more than a decade (following the commercial failure of Pola X) is a breathtakingly barking affair involving chimpanzees, aliens, computer graphics, talking limousines, false noses, Kylie Minogue channelling Jean Seberg and Eva Mendes being kidnapped by a familiar troll named Merde. "It's so weird!" breathes an incidental character ecstatically, and he's not kidding.

Director Mark Tonderai made his feature directorial debut in 2008 with the thriller Hush, after working as an actor, writer, and producer for various films and TV shows. The filmmaker returned to the silver screen last year with House at the End of the Street, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Elisabeth Shue, and Max Thieriot. The story follows Sarah and Elissa (Elisabeth Shue and Jennifer Lawrence), a mother and daughter who move into a dream house they shouldn't be able to afford.
