Painful

I love Japanese horror movies, but since apparently I've seen every good one, I ended up seeing this one.

Two mopey kids who like making world-weary sighs in their Hot Topic-decorated bedrooms within their (apparently, extremely rich) parent's houses become friends by finding out they both enjoy wearing black and reading coffee table books of crime-scene photos. They find out a serial killer is on the loose, killing teenage girls and displaying their bodies in artistic fashion around the city. They become fans of the serial killer and eagerly await his next exhibit. That's about it.

It would be too easy to make lots of jokes about goth kids and whatnot, so I won't even bother. Serial killers are so 1990's, so if you are going to trot out the tired serial killer clichés then you'd really better be bringing something special to the table along with that to make it interesting. This film doesn't.

No suspense, no scares, very slow moving, and full of soft-focus shots that I suspect were trying to make it look "artistic" but come off more like a perfume commercial. Not interesting in the least, even if you are a goth and think your soul is oh-so-dark and twisted, you will still be bored. About the only thing good about this movie was that I kind of liked the theme music that played over the opening credits.
