CORONADO 9 – A Bookie Is Not a Bibliophile - 1960
Coronado 9 was a one season Private Eye series that ran during, 1960-61. Rod Cameron plays a former Navy Intelligence officer who decides to set up shop as a private investigator. He works out of his beach front house in San Diego. This is episode 12 of the series.
In this one we have Rod Cameron flying down to New Orleans to take on a job. He has been hired by, Emien Davies to keep an eye on her daughter, Jacqueline Holt. Holt has a serious gambling problem and is always getting in trouble with different casinos etc.
Sure enough, Holt gets tossed from a local club for owing too much. She swears to get even and call the Police if they don't let her back in. Cameron steps up and drags off the woman back to her mothers.
The next day a package is delivered to the house addressed to Holt. Davies has the maid look into the package. Inside there is a book. The maid goes to remove the book from the box which turns out to be a bad idea. The book is really a parcel bomb. The device explodes, killing the maid.
Davies has Cameron look into this matter as well. She has three suspects, her daughter, Holt, her nephew, John Bryant, who just happens to run a book store and Raoul de Leon. De Leon is the owner of the club Holt had threatened with the Police.
Cameron uses his local Police contacts to dig up any possible evidence on the trio. This evidence soon leads to Bryant. He was an explosives man in the Marines. He was hoping to cash in early on any inheritance from Davies before Holt blew the family fortune.
Bryant of course refuses to come quietly, and blows are exchanged followed by a rooftop chase. Bryant fails to make a grab at a railing which results in him going head first down several floors to his death.
