Amazing Game, If You Know What You're Buying
the_legend_of_zelda_oot24 February 2008
This game was never meant to be one of the main games in the series. However, it does have a lot of information pertaining to it, and as such fans should buy it. The game is done as an on-rails shooter, it may not seem appealing at first, but this game is the first Resident Evil game thats pick-up and play. The story inside the game is contradictory to the true events of the series, but in the extra notes you find, it explains things clearly. Sure, the game is only a shooter, but it succeeds at what it is, and was never advertised to be something more.

This game to play is much more fun than Resident Evil 4, and with the files collected in it, tell a much better, more solid story than Resident Evil 4, though neither games involve much thought to play. If you're a Resident Evil fan, and like the classics, buy it, you won't be sorry, but if you're simply one from the masses of Resident Evil 4 players, who think they know something about the series, don't buy it.

Fun filler, nothing more than that
CuriosityKilledShawn10 March 2008
Fans of RE 0, 1 and 3 will no doubt get a kick out of this game. All of the key locations from these three entries get revisited and almost fully destructible in this rail-shooter.

I ain't no fan of rail shooter games. They were fine back in the days of Operation Wolf but nowadays they remind me too much of those awfully dated (and seemingly endless) House of the Dead games. I was a little wearing when purchasing RE: TUC but I knew it would be far superior to the other zombie shooter.

In between the rehashed levels you get to play as Wesker and find up what he was up to behind the scenes of the original games. If you unlock enough weapons and files you can also play a bonus level set in an industrial facility owned by Umbrella in the Russian snowy wastelands.

Some levels take a lot of repeating until you get the right combination of weapons and perfect the timing but not to the point that you'll be chucking your remote at the wall. I am terrible at these kind of games and I still managed it.

What disappointed me the most was the total lack of any kind of atmosphere. But it's not really that kind of game. RE: TUC is for those craving a dose of mindless violence rather than a problem-solving thinker.

But when you unlock absolutely everything there ain't much reason to go back to the game. It's basically just something to keep the fans from starving until RE5 comes out, whenever that will be. One thing's for sure, it won't be on the Wii.

Don't Compare it to 4! Gawd!
beth-35520 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, first of all everyone keeps comparing it to 4, which is totally stupid when you stop to think about it. The reason being is 4, continues the story line. Chronicles is meant to be fun and give more insight as to Umbrella and Raccoon City. Chronicles is more of a look into Umbrella, which is why it covers events in 0-3. It was never meant to be a gaming master-piece. I hate when people compare it to 4. Just a quick F.Y.I. the was Resident Evil games before all the movies and Resident Evil 4, it just got more popular after those titles. Don't be quick to judge when you don't know the facts. So I recommend this for real true fans who want to take a visit to Raccoon City in a new updated fashion.

Another breath of fresh air.
predxtreme13 January 2008
Like Resident Evil 4 before, this game is branching away from the now outdated 3rd person static camera the original resident evil games had, only in an completely different direction to what RE4 attempted.

Capcom had tried first person resident evil games before without much luck, they were pretty bad. Thankfully in this attempt they completely ditched the character movement control and instead went for an on rails shooter.

This doesn't mean you only point and shoot, the game provides moments where thanks to the Nintendo Wiis unique controls you need shake and rattle the controls to dodge and avoid enemies attacks, proving a new kind of interactivity no other RE game has ever done before.

As for the story of the game, most of the story is a recap of Umbrellas involvement with S.T.A.R.S, and gives a brief recap of RE0, 1 and 3. With some new behind the scenes secrets tot he story. This was done to fill in any questions for the new RE fans that RE4 brought to the series. It is recommended to play the actual games for the full story though, as the recaps are quite inaccurate at times.

The rest of the story is all new, and fills in some questions missing from the series, namely how Umbrella was finally taken down between the events of RE3 and RE4 which are 6 years apart in game time. Questions of how some people survived various predicaments in previous games that have never been answered before are done so here, involving the likes of Wesker and Ada.

Many complain that there is no RE2 or RE4 section, like said the game was made for new RE4 fans, so there is no need to recap that story, as for RE2, the story/characters has little to do with umbrella directly, it tackles events caused by them instead for a makority of the game, so it didn't have a place in RE:UC, a game following the characters that were directly involved with Umbrella.

While we don't get as much story as a full new RE game usually provides, we do get a lot, and the gameplay is still great fun either way, which should be the heart of a game.

Resident Evil fan fever dream
fh1473 April 2024
This is the first real gun shooter have played on wii to the finish line and this was a good time. I enjoyed I certainly hated all the things that look like crocodiles because I feel like they hit me way too fast so I didn't have time to react but other than that. I think the gameplay is really sorted and it is weird. It's the same developers as Resident Evil Dead aim.

Did get kind of doll with the graphics they look so great but the same time. They are atmospheric and looked nice,

And the Mechanic leader where you can kill them with one shot with a good headshot is really good. It's really rewards. Good aiming and even if my wrist begin to hurt in the later of the game it was fun. So I couldn't stop but god damn have to get an A on all stages to get one of the levels and that was a bad time.

The worst part of the gameplay is that it's kind of weird difficult to rise. I think the beginning part is the hardest then it's easy in the middle and then it becomes hard again in the late game so it's kind of like a Valley kind of difficulty.

The story is really boring maybe this is what happens when you take away all of the story parts of game and just put in the boss fights, but it's really hard to connect to the characters if you don't like them before which I have not played these Resident Evil games I have just watched other people playing them so it's weird doing this.

But I will say evil Johnny Bravo has the best voice I have heard and I could listen to him reading me audiobooks all day. He is so deliciously evil in the way He talks it is so good.

A Great Resident Evil Game
Terryfan5 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Since 1996 Capcom's Resident Evil Series has become one of the most famous video game series in the history of video games.

This would be the first Resident Evil game to be release on the Nintendo Wii and this is a Onrail Shooter Arcade Style Video Game.

Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles retells the story of Resident Evil 0 Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 3 Nemesis plus a whole new story that tells the rise and fall of Umbrella.

You Get To play Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield,Jill Valentine,Carlos Oliveira,Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen. Also you get to play bonus levels with Ada Wong and HUNK.

Albert Wesker serves as the main Protagonist. He tells the tale of past Resident Evil events while also playing a key part in the video game. The Main Antagonist in Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles is Sergei Vladimir, Wesker's Main enemy at Umbrella.

The Game being an Onrail Shooter allows you to play First Person View and the use of the Wii Remote give you the control of holding a gun or knife whichever weapon you choice to used in The story line.

Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles gives players a chance to know about the history of Resident Evil past titles that being Resident Evil 0 Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3 Nemesis.

Each level has their own boss battle and believe me that they are not a walk in the park when you place bosses like The Tyrant, Stringer, Nemesis,YAWN and others.

Many famous villains return in this game along with characters that were killed off in the games before this.

If you are new to Resident Evil and like to know about the history that you didn't know before Resident Evil 4 or 5 then this would be a good way to get caught on what has happened in Resident Evil.

The Game graphics are decent for the most part the character models I say are the best thing about the graphics.

The Voice Acting does for the most part give you the feel of the characters in the game.

The Controls really help out when fighting off countless waves of zombies and monsters.

The Game Play is pretty fun and has a lot of replay value so you can better your scores and unlock hidden items. The Game has hidden files and weapons so gives it a lot of replay value.

The Game is great but some of the boss battles will really taste your skills as a gamer but still a great game for fans of the Resident Evil Series.

Overall I give Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles an 8 out of 10 RESIDENT EVIL!

A dull asset flip that provides little in the way of lore.
worldm765-579-34017811 August 2020
Umbrella Chronicles is nothing more than a fan service asset flip that does little to add anything to the lore. Unless you count a scenario where you go to Russia and fight a painfully generic boss as adding to the lore. The overall package is dull and boring and brings nothing to the table.

This game is lame...................
dacifu17 November 2007
Unlike any other RE, this game is lame, you don't need any skill or any brain at all to play this game. You don't have to make absolutely no decision where to go or what to do, unlike RE4 where you can choose which path to take or plan some sort of strategy in order to defeat the enemy, this game is nothing but a lame shooting version of an arcade game from the '80s, the only thing you have to do here is aim and shoot. You want to go left, sorry you can't. You want to go back for that rifle you couldn't get, sorry you can't. If you have no brain or if you don't like to make your own decisions this game is perfect for ya, otherwise is just a big disappointment. The graphics in REUC is one huge step behind RE4 really awful game. The only good thing about this game is that I rented it before decided to buy it and I won't buy it, that's for sure!, RE4 way better game.

Horrible game, worst ever!!!
animepunk-2824818 February 2020
Let's take away your free will to move in a game and make bosses really super hard to defeat. Then make you fight those same bosses over and over and over and over and over and over again!!! This game makes me want to punch myself in the face repeatedly until I can't feel feelings anymore. Not just the worst resident evil game I've ever played, but possibly the worst game I've ever played in my whole 35 years of life.

Piece of garbage
animepunk-2824818 February 2020
This game is one of the worst I've ever played in my life. Anybody who says resident evil 6 is the worst resident evil game ever has clearly never played this piece of garbage. Takes away you free will to actually look around and collect items. All you can do is shoot, try to pick up items while your camera view is being thrown in another direction, then you usually die!!! Worst resident evil game ever!!!!

A step. Not necessarily in the right direction, but a step nonetheless
Mr_Ofsnart27 April 2008
This is a new sort of incarnation for the series in many ways. It eliminates the survival-horror and replaces it with running and gunning. Not that this is a bad thing - I quite enjoyed the change of pace from "how do I combine these things?", "what does this thing even do?" and "Oh, God, I forgot to use this back there, now I have to backtrack" to the much less frustrating "shoot, kill, throw grenade, listen to one-liner, shoot some more". There is no new story to absorb, just a refurbished stroll through the Resident Evil time-line, which makes storytelling as simple as replaying key events from throughout the series. It isn't groundbreaking or revolutionary in any way, just another installment in the franchise. However, I liked the added behind-the-scenes levels which told a bit more about the shady Umbrella Corporation and the backstories of certain characters, and the linearity helps to explain the sequence of events more. There isn't much about this game I can hold to fault, just don't buy it expecting any new story lines. All in all, it is a solid rail shooter without any serious defects save for the fact that Albert Wesker's cretinous voice seems to want to narrate the entire game.
