Paul Thomas Anderson Nearly Starred In 'Rachel Getting Married' With Anne Hathaway

19 November 2014 9:59 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Jonathan Demme’s 2008 “Rachel Getting Married” was a critical success and even pulled in about $13 million at the box office. The film has an 85% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and nabbed an impressive 37 awards on the festival circuit. Anne Hathaway scored her first Oscar nom for her work as Kym, the titular Rachel’s troubled sister. And why shouldn’t the film and its stars have received so much acclaim? Look at the cast: in addition to Hathaway, Demme lined up Anna Deavere Smith, Rosemarie DeWitt, Bill Irwin, and even TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe as Rachel’s groom, Sidney. As it happened, that last piece of casting almost wasn’t to be. In a recent interview with Stereogum, Adebimpe reveals scheduling conflicts prevented Demme’s first choice from joining the project, and the prospective Sidney might surprise you. “Oh, and the other funny thing about it was later, »

After the interstellar trip in Christopher Nolan's latest, Anne Hathaway comes back down to Earth for some family in drama in Song One. In the film, Hathaway portrays a young archaeologist who returns home from a dig in order to see her injured brother and soon strikes up a relationship with his favorite musician. Love, music and good times seem to ensue in this trailer. About 10 seconds into this trailer I got a real Rachel Getting Married kinda vibe, which wasn't bad »

It’s Time To Stop Hating Anne Hathaway

10 November 2014 5:00 AM, PST | VH1.com | See recent VH1.com news »

I’ll admit I got sucked into the #Hathahate in late 2012 when Anne Hathaway was in the middle of an Oscar campaign for her heart-wrenching performance as Fantine in Les Misérables. From the moment the actress started racking up wins — she’s one of the few people to win an Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild, and Critics Choice for the same role — and making her way from one red carpet to the next TV interview, the haters started to hate, hate, hate. And it was contagious.

By the time Hathaway walked up to the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to accept her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a pink Valentino gown with darts over her nipples — a dress she switched into at the last minute following media speculation that she didn’t want to wear a similar Alexander McQueen dress as then »

Sebastian Stan Joins Meryl Streep for 'Ricki and the Flash'

24 October 2014 2:38 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Just one day after signing on to Ridley Scott's The Martian, Sebastian Stan has landed a role in Ricki and the Flash opposite Meryl Streep.

We first reported on this project in April, when Meryl Streep signed on to play a woman chasing her dreams of being a rock star, which resulted in losing her family. Now this grocery store clerk gets one final shot at fulfilling her rock and roll destiny. Sebastian Stan is playing the woman's estranged son, joining a cast that also includes Kevin Kline and Rick Springfield.

Jonathan Demme (Rachel Getting Married) is directing from a screenplay by Diablo Cody (Young Adult), with Marc Platt and Mason Novick producing. It isn't known when production may begin.

Sebastian Stan most recently starred in Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, a role he will reprise in Captain America 3.
