Deserves to stay in the mud for eternity.
30 July 2009 | by (Edinburgh.) – See all my reviews

It is no surprise that this is only the second comment ever written about this movie, this waste of space, this film so dire that even a viewer as undemanding as . . . . me . . starts to physically hate it.

Jodi Russell plays Leslee Williams, a pretty and award-winning photojournalist. Her life is going along just fine until she bumps into Jonathan Powell (played by Mike Hamill), an old school associate whom she remembers fondly thanks to a poem he wrote for her with the title "Reflections In The Mud". Her life then gets better and better with love blooming and everything just rosy. Then Jonathan's work takes him away and the absence begins to stretch out. Has he left her for another woman? Does he have a shady career? Could any viewer actually care?

If you know someone with a digital photo frame containing a 100 or more random images of their family and family events then grab it and watch it because even that would be better than watching this terminally dull rubbish. It has a glossy sheen and some moments of pretension but the phrase "you can't polish a turd" has never been more apt in my personal viewing history.

Based partly on the "poetry" of Mike Hamill, this film reeks of the very worst in well-intentioned rubbish. Despite the respect given to the subject matter it still felt insulting to those it was acknowledging although I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was the awful, flowery poetry. Perhaps it was the sudden fade-outs every 3 minutes. Perhaps it was the godawful acting. In fact, it was all of these things and so much more. Avoid at all costs.

See this if you like: Sunset Beach, pouring powerful floor-cleaning products into your eyes with a smile on your face.
