Jennifer Carpenter Joins Cast of Hungry Rabbit Jumps

Though she is inexplicably disliked by many fans, Jennifer Carpenter is one of my favorite actors on Dexter. There is something special about a character that gets censored more in syndication than the serial-killing lead. Most likely due to her commitments to the show, however, she has not done much film work, the biggest exceptions being The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Quarantine. Now she's got another film to add to that list of classics.
Variety is reporting that Carpenter has joined the cast of Hungry Rabbit Jumps, alongside Mad Men star January Jones, Nicolas Cage and Guy Pearce. In the film, directed by Roger Donaldson, Cage joins an underground vigilante group after his wife (Jones) is the victim of a violent crime. Carpenter will be playing a friend of Jones'.
It's not a lead role, but as long as Cage doesn't throw on a wig it doesn't sound like

This might look familiar to you, and chances are, it should be the other way around. The thing this video reminds most American audiences of will be Quarantine, a low-budget horror movie from 2008. However, that was the English language remake of [Rec], a Spanish film that never arrived in the Us. And this is its sequel.
[Rec] 2 will be in theaters next year, according to Bloody Disgusting, so that's a step in the right direction. And through Bd (and Allocine), we have the first five minutes of the sequel. It picks up almost immediately after the original concludes, with a Swat team arriving on the scene of the quarantined building to uncover just what the hell has happened inside. And it's not pleasant.
I always like it in situations like this when the filmmakers who crafted the first film still feel the love enough to come back for round two. Jaume Balagueró

The French website Allocine currently has the first five minutes from the Spanish horror sequel “Rec 2″ online for your viewing pleasure (video below). In the sequel (the original was recently remade in the U.S. as “Quarantine”), the action continues as a medical officer and a Swat team are sent into the sealed off apartment from the first movie to control the situation. Needless to say, things that don’t necessarily involve hilarity ensues. Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza returns to direct the sequel, which is shot in the same Camera Pov style.

When I hopped on the phone with Columbus Short I didn’t know what to expect. The only film I had seen him in was Cadillac Records — nothing else. So it was quite a nice surprise that the interview ended up going as well as it did. Columbus was extremely friendly and it became one of those interviews where it felt more so like a conversation. After being in a series of films as a side character, he’s finally now headlining his own film with Armored. While I haven’t got a chance to see it yet, I’m looking forward to it. Considering it’s from Nimrod Antal, the man behind Kontroll and the upcoming Predator remake, it will most likely be worthwhile. Armored is now in theaters.
Can you first talk about how you got involved? Did they chase you down for it or did you go after the role?

True Blood has gained a new werewolf and a new vampire. THR announced that Ugly Betty's Grant Fowler has joined the cast as a werewolf named Coot, with newcomer Theo Alexander as Talbot, an "intensely beautiful" vampire. This comes just a day after Prison Break's Marshall Allman and Quarantine's Denis O'Hare joined the cast (as Sam's lost brother and the Vampire King of Mississippi) as reported on our Starlog site. Filming on Season 3 began this week.

Horror has always dominated the American Film Market and 2009 was no exception. And while there was a considerable shortage of titles this year, the overall quality was a huge step up from previous AFMs. I guess there’s something to be said for the lack of over-saturation.
The Dread Central crew was on hand through most of the week and caught several great screenings. Special thanks to all the exhibitors who let us see their latest offerings ...
Survival Of The Dead
The sixth entry in George A. Romero’s zombie series needs no introduction. But Voltage Pictures remains the least friendly exhibitor at Afm, shunning the very same genre press that has put them on the map. Despite Dread Central’s unwavering devotion to Romero and the fact that our own Uncle Creepy plays a member of the living dead, they were determined to keep us out of the screening.
