Ennis and Peace have teamed up before. Their previous collaboration "The Waldo Cumberbund Story", premiered, as their current collaboration did at the Toronto International Film Festival. I hope that the response to their new film was as enthusiastic as the one for "Waldo" (the audience laughed in all the right places).
My favourite of their collaborations is "The Business Of Suicide" (where's it's IMDb listing?), one of the funniest shorts I have ever seen (and I've seen a lot). I've heard that they've written a feature script based on the lead character of that film. Someone should give them the financing for that one!
Their current collaboration is the story of a Mountie who has lost his horse. Stuck in the wilds of Canada, he searches for his horse, stumbles (literally) over a young woman who may be the love of his life (if he could only understand what she is saying) and encounters an old nemesis with nefarious plans!
Shot in a widescreen format, the film is a visual treat (certainly Ennis' most beautiful film to date). The performances from the film's three actors are pitch perfect. Special mention much be given to Josh Peace though. Ennis has really pushed him far in their three films. Peace gamely plays it over-the-top in this film (and the two others). I'm afraid though that if he continues working with Ennis he may burst a blood vessel in his brain from the over-exertion of frenzied emotions he is made to play...for the benefit of those who like their films offbeat and a little manic.
