This was a pretty thorough look at the key naval battle in the Pacific during World War II - a 1942 battle that dealt the most severe blow to the Japanese and their quest to acquire an empire in the area.
Strategy between U.S. Naval forces, led by fleet commanders Chester Nimitz of America and Isorokoku Yamamoto, is shown and explained here. The show used a "virtual" map, showing the position of the ships in the Pacific Ocean, the airplanes flying to and from the carriers, and more.....making some of this come to life in 3-D style. It was very effective.
The bulk of the show is the father-and-son team of Peter and Dan Snow explaining about the naval war in the Pacific, beginning with the bombing of Pearl Harbor and concluding with the Battle of Midway. In the end, these guys explain how 12 U.S. bombs wound up doing the job. The final statistics they have indicate that: U.S. casualties: 300 men and one carrier; Japan: 3,000 men, 250 planes and four carriers.
Some of this information, and there is a lot of it, gets bogged down here and there but overall it's interesting and you can see the Snows trying their best to keep it entertaining. They roam from place to place, on land or sea on carriers, as they talk. Sometime that is distracting, but often it helps keep you focused.
