Trivia

Real-life sisters Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning were originally set to play Anna and Kate Fitzgerald, but bowed out after Dakota Fanning reportedly refused to shave her head, as required for the part. See more »

Goofs

Anna's lawsuit starts with cross examination from the defendant and lawyer-turned-nursemaid mother Sara Fitzgerald followed by Anna's lawyer. The order of proceedings is incorrectly inverted since a plaintiff like Anna would present her lawsuits underlying claims by Direct before scrutinized by Sara's cross. See more »

Quotes

[first lines]
Andromeda 'Anna' Fitzgerald: When I was a kid, my mother told me that I was a little piece of blue sky that came into this world because she and Dad loved me so much. It was only later that I realized that it wasn't exactly true. Most babies are coincidences. I mean, up in space you've got all these souls flying around looking for bodies to live in. Then, down here on Earth, two people have sex or whatever, and bam, coincidence. Sure, you hear all these stories about how everyone plans these perfect families. ...

Amazing!
27 June 2009 | by (Lincoln, United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Although the film differs from the book, it is still amazing. The acting was believable and you could really see the heartbreak of the family. But, there were also some funny moments, making the movie slightly uplifting. I am a huge fan of the book, and if i had been expecting to see on the screen exactly what is in the book i would have been disappointed. However, the film has earnt the 10 stars respectively and should, in my opinion, receive an Oscar. I can tell already that the actress who plays Kate will go far in the film industry and i feel that Cameron Diaz has done herself proud, discarding her comedy label. Overall, a brilliant film with a strong message.
