How the devil did they film this?!!
The_Foiler1 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The tidal waves looked real. The set--where that whole street was flooded and the survivors were on top of the fire truck--looked real. That giant half of a ferris wheel sticking out of the water, looked so real.

This seemed like a big budgeted disaster film with visual effects you would only see in a movie screen. And we saw it for free!

Huge props to the 9-1-1 cast and crew. Way to go!

WOW!

Last week's episode ended with a tsunami on the California coast, which led to tonight's show, and it was certainly worth the wait!, It was an intense episode, to be sure, with excellent work by the entire cast. But it was very powerful, with life or death on the line at every turn. I don't know how this was filmed, but the tsunami and it's aftermath seemed so very real. Kudos to the entire cast and crew and the director of this episode. (And I think there might be one more part to this storyline!). If you missed it, I hope you have HULU or On Demand....or wait for next summer's reruns.

Very realistic - special effects amazing for a TV show. Some people have said not a realistic or too much for a storyline. Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion, however, these disasters do happen in real life. Of course it is going to be dramatised of character interactions a bit more as it is a TV Show. After all the TV Show is called 9-1-1 and is portaying details from the emotional impact and toll of the handler who takes the calls and think of contingency plans to the heroes who are out trying to save lives from the heroes within of the Joe Public. The way things were shot in the show was amazing. Looking forward to the next episode!!!

Perfect performance for a TV series. Realistic and superb job by the whole crew. Kudos for them all. Think I spotted some goof but I enjoyed so much that I'm not gonna spoil anything

Too much

I really like watching 9-1-1. Most of the time. Don't like these over the top episodes with heavy disaster. Yes, it was technically made very good. Good effects. Nevertheless too much.

Impressed

Most 911 episodes are run of the mill and I confess I fall asleep because the scripts aren't always great.

However, this episode really had pace, suspense and drama. I was so invested in the story, as well as what would happen to Buck and Christopher. The two of them, and their relationship, really do add so much to this series.

The hotel scenes seemed a bit over the top, but at the same time, they were intense.

It was lovely to see Santa Monica pier and the ferris wheel. It brought back memories of my last visit.

I was caught up in this episode that by the end, I began to wonder if a tsunami had ever hit LA. šŸ¤£

"Sink or Swim"
allmoviesfan5 May 2023
Rarely has an episode title - "Sink or Swim" - been so completely literal. The second episode of 9-1-1's third season picks up right where the premiere left off...with the Santa Monica Pier and the rest of the Southern California coastline in the eye of a pretty huge tsunami.

The scenes of watery devastation are brilliantly done - it reminded me of a movie, and at times, In had to remind myself that I was watching a TV show. Seeing places that I personally love to visit when in the LA area destroyed by water packs an emotional punch as it is, but throw in peril for just about all of the characters, and this was a strong, strong episode. Maybe the best yet?

I loved Peter Krause in this episode: his leadership as Bobby kind of grounded everyone else, despite everything going on around them. A great actor and a great performance.

Great effects, but plot is weak

Very well done with CG, etc. But I don't care for this premise. Not sure it will hold up for more than 1 episode.
