Switching to old seasons' bad habits?, 7 August 2007

Well, this season has been outperforming the past few years of TDZ episodes... until tonight. We went back to old theme night, where arcs stand still and Johnny solves crimes whilst on the road. And lo and behold he encounters a gorgeous blonde for the 10th time! And for the 10th time the blonde falls for him! The story was recycled and ridiculous. Recycled: A bad girl who crushes on Johnny's innocence, Johnny taking care of the bad guys and righting her wrongs, yadda yadda. Redicuclous: Getting past a border security customs agency that easily.

Oh well, although they do digress from furthering in storyline, points are still given for at least the discussion of said arc, and we do get to reflect on the Sara/JJ issues for a bit so all is not lost. And Bruce is mentioned, too, so things are not entirely out of place. Maybe he's mentioned because he was usually part of the old filler mystery-solving Johnny episodes over the years so his name was a tribute to that. Or maybe we'll see him soon, that'd be cool.

All in all, not the best of episodes but this season itself can allow a few crummy ones from making me feel that the show is losing its touch. Season six is still way above the average of the past few years, so I'll just assume that Switch was a glitch. Let's just hope that the switch wasn't a permanent one.
