Trivia

When waiting to see if Party Down would be picked up for a third season, Adam Scott left the show for the part of Ben Wyatt on Parks and Recreation (2009). Although Rob Thomas said they would have continued the show without Adam Scott, Party Down (2009) was ultimately canceled.
Original plans for the show in the early '00s were to feature 'Paul Rudd' as Henry, Steve Carell as Ron and Jane Lynch but negotiations with networks were unsuccessful at the time. After "Veronica Mars" was canceled, Rob Thomas decided to bring the project back and shoot an unaired pilot at his home with a revised cast. This cast was kept when the show actually went into production, with the exception of Andrea Savage, who played Casey Klein in the unaired pilot, while Lizzy Caplan was cast when the show went into actual production. Savage actually guested on the show's second season, playing a former comedian who befriends Casey and gives her some advice for her career.
Party Down (2009) has an extremely strong connection to the show Veronica Mars (2004). "Party Down" creator Rob Thomas was the creator of "Mars;" "Party Down" creator John Enbom was a producer on "Mars, "Party Down" creator and Dan Etheridge was a writer on "Mars", and "Party Down" creator Paul Rudd was a "Mars" guest star. Salvador Pérez Jr. was a costume designer, Daniel Gabbe an editor and Josh Kramon a composer on both shows. "Party Down" regular Ryan Hansen was also a "Veronica Mars" regular. "Party" regulars Ken Marino, Jane Lynch and Adam Scott were "Mars" guest stars, Ken Marino in a recurring role. "Party" guest stars Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring and (Veronica herself) Kristen Bell were all "Mars" regulars. "Party" guest stars Daran Norris, Alona Tal, Steve Guttenberg, Ryan Devlin, Martin Yu, Adam Bitterman, Kathleen Parker, Michael Kostroff and Ed Begley Jr. were also recurring on "Mars." And "Party" guest stars Joey Lauren Adams, Jackie Debatin, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Lee Weaver, Scott Michael Morgan, Todd Christian Hunter and Ryan Pinkston were also "Mars" guest stars.
Character Henry Pollard's back story about being an actor with an obnoxious party animal character whose catch phrase is "Are we having fun yet?!" mimics actor Ken Marino's (Ron Donald) real life experience playing party animal character Louie on The State (1993), whose catch phrase was "I wanna dip my balls in it!".
