'Bad Teacher' TV Adaptation Starring Ari Graynor Gets Series Order From CBS

7 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

CBS has ordered a single-camera comedy based on the Cameron Diaz movie "Bad Teacher" to series for the 2013-2014 season, the network announced today. Ari Graynor ("For a Good Time, Call...," "Whip It"), who's really earned a bigger platform for herself after so many funny sidekick roles, will take the lead role as Meredith Davis, an unapologetic former trophy wife turned inappropriate instructor in search of a new man to support her after being left penniless by her last marriage. "The Office" alums Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky wrote the original film and are executive producing the half-hour TV series alongside Hilary Winston ("Happy Endings"), who wrote the pilot -- Don Scardino was the director. "Bad Teacher," which has been given a 13-episode order, co-stars Sara Gilbert ("Roseanne"), Kristin Davis ("Sex and the City"), Ryan Hansen ("Party Down") and David Alan Grier ("In Living Color"). Sony Pictures Television are co-producing the series with CBS. »

Ben Mankiewicz Talks TCM Classic Film Festival, Why 'Transformers' Is "Unwatchable" & The Movie He's Seen 40 Times

14 May 2013 11:59 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Ben Mankiewicz is a man of many talents -- weekend host on TCM (Turner Classic Movies), regular co-host of liberal YouTube show “The Young Turks” and its spin-offs “What The Flick?! Show” and “Tyt Sports,” and he played a sportscaster on “Party Down.” And while it may seem like Mankiewicz plays to a particularly older audience, as a TCM host, Mankiewicz has an expanding flock of classic film fans and they’re not all blue-hairs -- just check out the twitter hashtag #TCMParty. And by the way, yes, Ben is one of those Mankiewiczes, sharing a Hollywood lineage that includes Frank Mankiewicz, Tom Mankiewicz, Herman Mankiewicz, and Joseph L. Mankiewicz. But he's definitely carved out a notable career in the industry all on his own, and at the 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival we got to sit down with Ben Mankiewicz and discuss working at TCM, why he doesn’t like “Some Like It Hot, »

There Will Be No 'Hatfields And McCoys' Drama

8 May 2013 9:51 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

NBC has passed on the "Hatfields and McCoys" pilot, produced by Charlize Theron, The Wrap reports.

The network's decision to skip the modern-day "Hatfields and McCoys" drama comes as a bit of a surprise, considering the success of History's miniseries on the legendary families and the cast that had joined the pilot: Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen, "Risky Business" star Rebecca De Mornay and "One Tree Hill" alum Sophia Bush had signed on in addition to Nick Westrate, Patrick John Fleuger, Jesse Lee Soffer and Annie Ilonzeh.

NBC's "Hatfields and McCoys" pilot centered on the legendary family feud in present-day Pittsburgh when a startling death reignited the battle between the wealthy Hatfields and the working-class McCoys for control of the city. De Mornay had been cast as sophisticate Mary Hatfield, the mayor of Pittsburgh, Marsden was set to play tough as nails McCoy matriarch Eloise with Bush joining the project as her daughter Emma. »

Casting Couch: Adam Scott Invites Everyone Back Into the ‘Hot Tub Time Machine,’ Keanu Is a Killer, and More

8 May 2013 4:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

What is Casting Couch? It’s back to give you another healthy dose of casting news. If you don’t like spoilers, then don’t continue forward, because we’ve got some big time spoilers concerning a couple of Anchorman 2 cameos. Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, and Clark Duke are all ready to don their swimsuits to go for another soak in the Hot Tub Time Machine, but they have a problem. It turns out that the star of the first film, John Cusack, doesn’t want to join them. Never fear though, because The Wrap is reporting that Party Down and Parks and Recreation star Adam Scott has agreed to step into the role of the straight man for Hot Tub Time Machine 2, and he’s generally way more likable than Cusack these days anyway. What will this sequel have in store for Scott and the original crew? Will they perhaps, this »

Parks and Recreation's Adam Scott in talks for Hot Tub Time Machine 2

7 May 2013 5:37 PM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Parks and Recreation actor Adam Scott could be joining the cast of Hot Tub Time Machine 2.

Scott is in talks to join the sequel, which will be directed by Steve Pink (High Fidelity).

If Scott joins the comedy he would take on a leading role, with details of his character currently being kept quiet, The Wrap reports.

He would likely fill the void left by John Cusack, who will not be returning for the second instalment.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 will feature the return of original cast members Craig Robinson (Pineapple Express), Rob Corddry (What Happens in Vegas) and Clark Duke (Greek).

The trio starred in the 2010 original from MGM Studios.

Scott is currently attached to several new projects including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Party Down.

Can The Gimmick Work Again? John Cusack Out, Adam Scott In For 'Hot Tub Time Machine 2'

7 May 2013 2:59 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

So, earlier this year word started circulating that MGM was looking to make a sequel to "Hot Tub Time Machine." We all rolled our eyes and sighed, but it appears that this thing is actually moving forward...but without one key player, while another rising funnyman is swapping in.... The Wrap reports that "Party Down" and "Parks & Recreation" star Adam Scott is in early talks for "Hot Tub Time Machine 2." He'll join the returning Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke (all of them are banging out deals) for the followup, to the very modestly successful first movie, playing an entirely new character, while John Cusack is moving on. Here's the thing, though. That first movie (much like "Snakes On A Plane") relied on a funky title to do half the heavy lifting, while the actual movie was sorta half baked, as funny at times as it was tedious. Will »

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Will Star Adam Scott

7 May 2013 2:22 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Adam Scott is arguably one of the most interesting actors working today. His filmography varies from dramas like The Aviator to campy horror films like Piranha. So it’s no surprise that the versatile funnyman is lending his talents to Hot Tub Time Machine 2 as he’s now set for a lead role in the upcoming sequel.

The original Hot Tub Time Machine was a surprising success, grossing $50 million domestically on a $36 million budget. The story followed four friends (John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, Clark Duke) who stumble upon a magic hot tub that transports them back to the 1980s to relive an important night in their lives. Plot details for the sequel are currently unknown but we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.

Adam Scott To Take John Cusack's Place In Hot Tub Time Machine 2

7 May 2013 1:53 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke are all ready to take another trip in the Hot Tub Time Machine, but sadly John Cusack will not. While no reason is specified at this time, it appears as though he will be the only member of the main cast that doesn't return. But the good news is that the project has already found an actor to fill the void, and it's a great choice. The Wrap is reporting that Adam Scott, best known for his work on television shows like Parks and Recreation and Party Down, is now in talks to join the cast of Hot Tub Time Machine 2. In addition to Robinson, Corddry and Duke, director Steve Pink will be returning to direct the project as well. It's been reported that the movie will start production this summer, presumably to have it ready for a 2014 release. The site stresses that »

Parks and Recreation's Adam Scott may take the lead in Hot Tub Time Machine 2

In my book, Adam Scott went from douchey creepo to awkwardly adorable. All this stemming his role as Ben Wyatt on Parks And Recreation. That Letters To Cleo shirt really won me over. Yeah, so it's a fictional character, like I care. No, I didn't forget Party Down. Scott who has been in a ton of parts, but never really made it to leading man status may sign on for Hot Tub Time Machine 2 to do exactly that. Veronica Mars Kickstarter Ends Strong with $5.7 Million

14 April 2013 2:12 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

It looks like a Veronica Mars movie will be coming to a theaters near you in 2014.  After a record-breaking month of Kickstarter donations, the feature adaptation of Rob Thomas’ (Party Down) beloved cult TV series has the funding to go into production.  The original goal of $2 million was surpassed in just the first day, but Thomas himself had a personal hope that they would reach $5 million by the end of the month.  While not everyone was fully behind the idea of using Kickstarter to fund the film, it is undeniable that this project shows the power of the fans and viewers.  If there is a dedicated following behind a TV show or film, they would be willing to move mountains and open up their wallets to see unfinished stories get that last chapter. The Veronica Mars movie has commitments from stars Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring, but hopefully we can »

Go the F--- to Sleep Becoming a Movie

Go the Fuck to Sleep is a brilliant picture book for grown-ups. How it'll be transformed into a full-length film isn't entirely clear, but Party Down's Ken Marino and Erica Oyama (a writer on Childrens Hospital and Burning Love; married to Marino) are on the case. We already know Charlize Theron reads the book to her young son, so there's a head start for casting. »

Ken Marino and wife to adapt 'Go the F-k to Sleep'

Once upon a time a cutely illustrated, explicitly written “children’s book for adults” burst onto the scene. Adam Mansbach’s ode to parents who can’t get their children to, well, go the f–k to sleep, was a bestseller before it was even available (under the “advice” category on the New York Times list).

We’ve heard Samuel L. Jackson read it. Werner Herzog, too. People complained. We responded. And now, the book that started as a funny Facebook post is going to be a feature film for Fox.
