Vampire-con '09: Midnight Son

After the double-header of Count Yorga and Lost Boys at this weekend's 1st Annual Vampire-Con, filmmaker Scott Leberecht  unveiled his low budget horror film, Midnight Son, at a midnight screening.  Despite a vampire protagonist, it is unrelated to the Marvel Comic, Midnight Sons.

The story of a security guard who may be turning into a vampire, it's atmospheric and the biggest names in the cast are character actors Tracey Walter and Larry Cedar. One can see elements of George Romero's Martin, Vampire's Kiss and Abel Ferrara's The Addiction. Leberecht  was charmingly blunt. "I wanted to do the cheapest movie I could come up with--scary and supernatural.  I didn't have any love for vampires, it just felt right." Cinematheque, Joe Dante, Vampire-Con genre screenings in Hollywood

Los Angeles’ American Cinematheque has announced the lineup for its 9th Annual Festival of Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction. The event runs August 13-16 at the Aero Theatre (1328 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica) and Aug. 20-30 at the Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Boulevard).

The Aero program is more fantasy-oriented, with double bills of Matthew RobbinsDragonslayer and Ridley Scott’s Legend (U.S. version), John MiliusConan The Barbarian and Richard Fleischer’s Red Sonja, etc. (see full details here).
